iPod Nano Watch: Steve Jobs Floats Wristwatch Idea (POLL, PHOTOS)

First Posted: 09/01/10 03:05 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:30 PM ET

Just what can the new iPod Nano do?

Besides a series of new features and sleek new design, it can also serve as a watch, Steve Jobs joked at Wednesday's Apple event introducing the newest iPods.

"One of the members of our Board of Directors is going to use it as a watch," Jobs said.

And it may not be such a far-fetched idea with the tiny new design, a wristband and the Nano's clock functionality.

Twitter exploded at the suggestion of an iPod Nano watch, and ZDNet agrees it's the "perfect geek watch." A sampling of tweets below:

@JoshwaHudson: New iPod nano has a clock app and you can buy a wrist strap = apple watch.
@GabrielBridger: Oh hello iPod Nano watch.
@lewisfielder: Buying the ipod nano, purely to use for a watch!
@Chetterb: I would totally wear the iPod nano as a watch, first touchscreen watch, yes sir!
@pekpongpaet: i think i am going to use the new ipod nano as a watch

Quick Poll

If you had the new iPod Nano, would you wear it as a watch?

Yes, love the idea!

Never, totally not cool.

Not sure.

Needs to be much more than a watchband to make it worth while. Here is a ipod nano bluetooth watch I submitted to Quirky a little while ago. I hope somebody make this.

I think that this is not only cool but a good idea. Simply clipping the nano onto your clothes wont work at the gym and normally I end up putting my ipod in my pocket or a bag when I am not using it. I like the look of the examples at http://www.watchmynano.com.

If you think that is cool, check out the next generation iPods featuring iRing, iBelt and iSpeak!

Great idea. the Nano reminded me of an idea that David Merrill revealed in 2009 at a TED Conference. His demonstration was called "Siftables - the toy blocks that think" These are "blocks" with a LCD screens that reacts, wirelessly via bluetooth with each other.. Too hard and long to explain here. Go to http://www.ted.com/. TED - ideas worth spreading.

Didn't Microsoft do wrist watches before and that tanked because nobody cares?
09:13 PM on 09/04/2010
It was Microsoft and nobody cared. What an concept. Remember this was not designed with this as its main purpose. It was a person, a member of the board of directors of Apple Inc. who saw the new iPad and thought what a wonderful idea it would make. I agree completely.

As much as I hate Steve Jobs, this is a very good idea. iPod/watch with other countless applications could be a very useful tool for some. Though... I wouldn't pay $200 for a fancy wristwatch. I'll wait for the competitor wrist-phone from google with blutooth.

Dick Tracy & Moon Maid would buy one of these for sure.

The wristwatch nano is here, can the wristwatch phone be far behind?
Chester Gould predicted the idea of the wristwatch phone, and would be happy to see it turned into reality.
