Kendall Langford Earring Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. — Several Miami Dolphins crawled across the field after practice Tuesday – not due to exhaustion, but because they were looking for a diamond earring.

Defensive end Kendall Langford said he forgot to take his earrings off before practice and lost one during drills. He said the diamond was nearly 2.5 carats, which is why he was still on the field an hour after practice scanning the grass.

At least nine teammates helped. Some were on hands and knees, and a couple used rakes to comb through the turf. They had a lot of ground to cover, because the Dolphins practice on two fields.

"I've got a great group of guys out here helping me – family-type guys," Langford said.

He declined to say how much the earring cost. One jewelry distributor said it could be worth more than $50,000.

Several fellow defensive linemen were among those assisting Langford in his search.

"He's a teammate. That's what you do," defensive end Ryan Baker said. "It's a fat diamond. It's a shame."

Coach Tony Sparano briefly watched the hunt for the jewelry but did not participate. He said he has never lost earrings at practice – or anywhere else.

"I can't afford them," he said.

Langford finally abandoned the search – temporarily, at least – because he was due at a team meeting. In addition, the grounds crew had started mowing the grass.

A commenter made reference to Mr. Langford's size and his response to constructive and proscriptive talk. It is evidence that Mr. Langford did not receive the lesson of protecting his valubles...therefor if I, a 59 year old Black male, offer him knowledge of his worth, as well as how he looks need not be tied into such a foolish act as to wearing these baubbles while playing football. Now I truly hope that someone has informed him of the legal ramifications if he decides to knock me into next week. On the serious side, I am sadden to hear that here on this globe one man can mismanage wealth that could surely remedy so many social problem...then again I may be still in the 60s when we had the struggle. If this is an indication of making it.......

Is this a movie? Why would a pro NFL player think of wearing $50,000 earrings to a practice?

Sports women have long known to remove the hardware before playing. That's what you get for wearing earrings in the first place.

This is why I quit watching football in the first place. I played highschool ball. I love the game. I really do. I have a picture of Franco Harris down on one knee on the sidelines watching the game with blood gushing from the bridge of his nose. No bandage...no team doctors fussing over him...just a predator watching the gazelle. Then it all changed. A few years back I was watching a Dallas game (used to be my fav team) and a lineman gets his helmet knocked off. They stop the game. Not because he got his helmet knocked off or even because he was injured, but rather because his huge diamond earing stud fell off and now two proffesional football teams were walking around the field looking for an earing. It was unbelievable. I sat mouth gaping in shock. I since lost all taste for the game. These aren't gladiators they are pampered performing animals in a horrible over priced circus.

It always makes me feel so uncomfortable whenever I see these guys (the ones with all the bling) on the sideline. Football is a rough game--why do you want to wear something in your earlobes that costs enough to pay for a house? I know they think they're being impressive, but the message I get is, "I grew up poor and ran out and bought something ridiculously expensive as soon as I had money." Kind of like that bum on the Simpsons who bought a solid gold house as soon as he won a lawsuit.

Oh sorry--was all that out loud?

Call me old fashioned, but I have never liked seeing men wear earrings. (Maybe one, but two!!! No way).
