Ben Russell's Exhibit At Museum Of Contemporary Art Explores Psychedelic Film

Psychedelic Film Exhibit Opening At The MCA

Media artist Ben Russell is opening a short-lived, mind-expanding exhibit this weekend at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Entitled "Trypps #7 (Badlands)," the film is a study of what Russell describes as "trance, travel and psychedelic ethnography."

What does that mean, exactly? This installment of Russell's "Trypps" series follows a young woman's LSD trip in the Badlands National Park, then transforms into an abstract exploration of the beautiful and expansive landscape of the park.

The exhibit will only run for a little more than three weeks, but it will be augmented by a few events throughout September. On the night of Saturday, September 18th, the entire seven-film "Trypps" series will be screened at the MCA Theater. Russell will screen a handful of related short films on Tuesday the 14th. And the exhibit is kicked off this Friday night with a performance by MAZES, Russell's light-noise duo that's just back from its European tour.
