Olbermann: Beck Caught Lying During Rally (VIDEO)

Wednesday night on MSNBC, Keith Olbermann helped expose a lie Glenn Beck told during his "Restoring Honor" rally this weekend.

"He's a great moment from the Beck Rapture, total crapture," Olbermann said introducing a clip in which Beck claimed to have visited the National Archives and held George Washington's handwritten first inaugural address in his hands.

"Little could Father Cough-Glenn over here know, but there are actually people at the National Archives to call him on his lies," Olbermann said.

According to the National Archives, Beck did visit and was shown Washington's inaugural address, but did not hold it.

"Those kinds of treasures are only handled by specially trained Archival staff," a spokeswoman said.

Olbermann's MSNBC colleague Ed Schultz also reported on Beck's rally lie Wednesday night.

"If the Beckster really wants to restore honor to America, he should start with telling the truth," Schultz said.

Olbermann has more or less become what he says he despises, i.e. a narrow bigoted demagogue. I think Beck actually won because he has gotten Olbermann to give up any shred of dignity by using the same exact strategite­s that he accuses Beck of using.

I'll start by saying that I am NO Beck fan by any stretch of the (however twisted) imaginatio­n. I think the man is total poison.

But....

I also think that Olbermann'­s penchant for name calling borders on juvenile. I mean, come on. If you're pointing a finger at someone else to show off their ridiculous behaviors then don't stoop to behaviors that are equally childish to do it. I want to respect Olbermann'­s perspectiv­e because I agree with him. But when he gets into the infantile "Na, na, na, na, na" finger wagging stuff I just expect him to stick his tongue out and blow raspberrie­s; which makes me just want to walk away from his reporting as quickly as I do Beck's. Maybe I'm simply misjudging and missing Olbermann'­s attempts at humiliatio­n through humor?? Help me out here folks.

By your definition Beck embellishe­d. He did visit the National Archives and he did read George Washington­'s handwritte­n first inaugural address. That is your 2" long fish. Beck didn't hold it in his hands; that is the 5" fish.

However, "like" all of us do everyday, in one way or another, Beck overstated the truth; and if that is knowingly done, it is a lie.

I don't like this Beck character, but come on. Olbermann has to get something better than this. This "lie" is so minor it doesn't even deserve air time. It's like saying, "Beck caught going 5 miles over the speed limit, news at 11".
