The third world America is being intentionally hidden from the view of the rest of the country.
It is the old adage "if you don't see it , it doesn't exist". Not true and just another tactic to keep everyone from getting energized to do something about it.Now that I think about it the same tactic was used during the great depression.
Keep the masses complacent, keep them drugged with T.V. and distractions and don't forget to instigate the "us against them mentality." The great psychological ploy. (sarcasm) It is working!
Arianna there are so many places for you to attend..
I would love to see you up in the Great NorthWest... That does not mean that other parts of the country are hurting.
Thank you for speaking truth to power.

I've heard you're not even part of the country. Obama was born there and he's not a citizen.

Flint, because we've been third world since the late 80's.

She should visit Jacksonville, Florida - the foreclosure rate is staggering and a double-digit percentage of residents are credit challenged.

The following comment was perfectly en pointe ... and then apparently deleted (out of spite?).

It merits a repost;

________________________________

What I find peculiar about “Third World America” as well as some of the other AH’s causes is that it feels like they are more about self-promotion in the cluttered media, than about genuinely addressing an issue.

She hops on a contemporary issues, then takes an “in-your-face” or slightly provocative position and touts it to whoever would listen … and then eventually abandons the idea.

Here are a few previous examples:
- “Vice President Biden should resign since he disagrees with President Obama’s position in Iraq”
- “Move your money from big banks to community banks”
- “Instead of talking about ‘Balloon Boy,’ let’s start a ‘Feed America’s Children Movement’”

While some of these issues are worthy, I feel as though they were raised to garner public attention … for her.

What proof do you have that Ms. Huffington has "given up" on any of the issues you mention above? There is so much negativity in this comment section about Ms. Huffington, yet she is an extraordinaril bright woman who has created the most successful news site in the world, she writes thoughtful books and she travels the nation, often on her own dime, to educate her fellow citizens about issues of importance. She doesn't have to do a damn thing. The woman is not wanting for money. Could it be that she is acting to do the right thing -- to be a good citizen and a decent human being? Heck, if writng a book or creating a news site is so easy, I don't know why all of the Huffington-haters don't just go out and do these things on their own. Geez, some of you guys need to give it up and find someone else to target with your constant questioning and criticism of Ms. Huffington's motivation for doing the things she does. None of us can get inside of her head, heart or soul, so why not at least give the poor woman the benefit of the doubt?

ETSU. The professor that wrote in is correct. Many students could use some motivation to continue with their education. I know because I'm a recent alumni.

How about some places that are already Third World America?

Like Detroit, parts of New Orleans, rural West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas? East LA, Southside of Chicago...
