BELL -- A new report says property owners in the City of Bell overpaid hundreds of thousands of dollars in sewer fees.
This is just the latest grievance for Bell residents, who are already furious about the inflated salaries of city officials and high property taxes -- the second highest in all of L.A. County.
State auditors have discovered that taxpayers in Bell were overcharged $621,737 in sewer assessment fees in the past three years.
The sewer fee rate hike did not have voter approval and was higher than the maximum allowed. Some people were paying 2½ times the allowable maximum rate.
The state controller says the fees were illegal.
