If the shirt were tailored to fit her body and the shorts were at mid-thigh with a cuff...maybe also a belt.

It's a gigantic miss. Mainly because it is way ill-fitting her body.
Too bad as I 'd love to see a female celebrity do more men's wear at red carpet events. For example: Janet Jackson used to wear elegant pants suits.
Diane Keaton seems to be the only one now. Sarah Silverman occasionally.

I think the shorts would have worked if they weren't made out of that awful, bulky fabric. I would have worn the shorts made of lightweight wool with thin pinstripes, and more fitted. I also would have added a feminine, eye-catching accessory.

Sofia Coppola is a beautiful woman, and super smart and talented. I don't think this style suits her though. It's too cutesy. Here are some more photos of her:

She looks happy with what she is wearing, she looks comfortable in what she's wearing and I love her shoes.

It's all "niice stuff"--it just doesn't go together. (The hair cut doesn't go with her face and neck; the shorts don't go with the shoes; and the body doesn't go with the shorts.)

Other than that, she looks marvelous. :)
