U.S. Open Fight VIDEO: Fans Brawl In Stands (VIDEO)

First Posted: 9/3/10 Updated: 5/25/11

The 2010 U.S. Open, like last year's edition, has seen several contentious moments on the court. Now it appears that some of the drama has spilled into the stands.

According to the New York Daily News, a brawl broke out among spectators Thursday night in section 187 as Novak Djokovic and Philipp Petzschner played nearby. Both participants -- a woman and a man -- were reportedly taken away by police.

Meanwhile, on the court, Djokovic secured a victory. Scroll down for video of the altercation.

@ Van Troi

I can only conclude from all of your arguments that you are exactly like these two hooligans, and that is why you defend them so much. For the final time I will say to you: NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO ASSAULT ANOTHER PERSON SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIKE WHAT THAT PERSON IS SAYING. I would not be surprised if the hooligans are also Tbaggers, hence their controlling and despicable nature. There was even a post on here by someone that knows the hooligans stating that the hooligans have a reputation in their neighborhood as upstarts.

Why you defend them so vehemently is beyond me. The videos plainly shows who the attackers were. I think you're totally wrong about the victim in the video being unable to bring an assault case against the hooligan duo. If anything, an attorney would take the case just for the publicity. Look at how many comment there are on here, the majority are against the few of you that defend the aggressive behavior by these awful people.

I leave at that, you're free to have and hold your opinion, even if you are significantly wrong. Even if you did work for a lawyer, these two show no compunction in acting like lunatics in public. I happen to know two very smart attorneys who saw this video, and without a doubt they both clearly saw who the aggressors were.

One day the world will be just as you'd like. Keep on dreaming.

He lives with his girlfriend, who seems to support him.
I would say the couple will have a much more difficult time getting laid, but I don't think their chances were that high before the incident.

If the guy was being obnoxious she should have gotten an attendant to help. She and the old man should have been thrown in jail for assault.

Who's this woman think she is to be slapping a total stranger? Even if the kid was being obnoxious, she hads no right to slap him. Even though this kid looked like a punk, he showed great restraint by not retaliating against her.

I wonder how many of the 'it was all his (the young man's) fault' would have been calling for the other two to be facing jail time for assualt if the ages had been reversed?

I know.

And the security people knew it too.

The days when you can just toss the 'obvious troublemaker' out, and have that be the end of it, are gone. They may have descended on and been fairly aggressive with the 'obvious troublemaker', but they also stopped and listened to those who were telling them that the 'troublemaker' wasn't the one who escalated the incident, and that likely had more to do with the awareness that it would likely not come down to a case of 'he said-she said' but rather the much more embarassing and dangerous 'see for yourself who attacked who'.

I'm really surprised that everyone seems to side with the young man here. It really seems like the crowd is against him; I'm assuming they have a reason. Judging from the body language, it really seems like she was speaking her mind, and he was too good to hear her.

As for everyone yelling "criminal assault". Really? Sure. Legally, both the older man and woman probably would have been found guilty. But morally? It looked like the young man was a loudmouth, and I think the rest of the crowd was happy that somebody had the guts to tell him to shut up.

Maybe I'm prejudiced, because every time I watch the way he talks, I want him to get his ass kicked. But is that worse than being prejudiced against the older couple because they're older and overweight? The guy is cussing up a storm, and obviously said things to the woman and man that prompted them to lose control.

dude could have told them he eats babies for breakfast, still doesn't give them the right to physically attack him.

I don't fall for group think or mob mentality.
The easy answer, and the moral answer to a loud mouthed jerk, is to ask security for assistance.
The fact that some people cheer the first assault does not neccessarly mean they were against the young man, they might have just been cheering the action.
And the two who run down to attack the young man were obviously wannabe goons.
We don't know what started the argument, but it was certainly the couple who started the physical confrontation.

And how can you talk about morals when you admit to wishing physical harm to a man you have never met, or has ever harmed you?

Thank you.
