7 Unexpected And Interesting Uses For Flowers (PHOTOS)

In their brief but expensive life, flower arrangements are often seen as impractical and even a waste of money. But flowers have a long and rich history beyond just decorating your table or wedding. They've been used for their healing properties, nutrition, and even to get high.

After seeing how common and under-appreciated some of these useful flowers are, you might take a renewed interests in those humble flowers you walk past every day.

If you ever order a salad that comes garnished with pansies, or even rose petals, don’t pick around the blossoms; give them a taste! They’re edible and have a pleasant, mild taste.

In late summer take a trip to the farmers market to pick up squash blossoms for use in some delicious recipes like squash blossom quesadillas or stuffed squash blossoms with ricotta. You can also add some pretty purple borage flowers to your salad or summer drinks for a cucumber note.

There are many other edible flowers out there, but just make sure you don’t go crazy and poison yourself.
