Sharron Angle Slapped With Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Over Las Vegas Review-Journal Articles

09/ 4/10 11:13 PM ET   AP

Sharron Angle Copyright Lawsuit
Sharron Angle has been sued for posting full articles from The Las Vegas Review-Journal to her campaign Web site.

LAS VEGAS — A company has sued Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle, claiming she reprinted two Las Vegas Review-Journal articles on her campaign website without permission.

Las Vegas-based Righthaven is seeking unspecified damages in its complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.

The suit alleges Angle neither sought nor received permission to display a Review-Journal article and editorial on her website this summer.

An Angle spokesman says he would not comment until the campaign's lawyers have reviewed the suit.

Righthaven tracks Internet traffic for copyright infringements of Review-Journal stories. It then buys the copyright for a story from the newspaper's owner, Stephens Media LLC, and sues the alleged infringer.

If she failed to reference her sources, and used "significant" portions of their copyright material, she is liable for damages. You all praise this action by Righthaven although none of you see that they were using this tactic so distastefully. They're using it as an extortion tactic. You beloved Democrat sites are being attacked as well. I'm sure half of you bloggers out there have violated Righthaven's claims at some point on some website.

Most of the comments here blow my mind.

It's always politics as usual, regardless of who's in "control". Whether you have an R or D, or you call yourself a Tea Party Member, or teabagger as most of you so eloquently call them.

It's time for people to open their eyes and work towards individual freedom and common sense. This is America. We have the opportunities to be as great as our dreams drive us to be. We also have an equal amount of opportunities to fail miserably at it. We need to stop blaming others or letting others subsidize our failures.

It's time to grow a pair and not only be adults but freedom loving Americans again.

I have a tiny inkling more respect for the Review Journal today, Southern Nevada/Las Vegas' main newspaper that leans pretty "right." They have been aggressively going after "reposts" the last few months and I thought they were only going after "left" sites, but it appears they are being an equal opportunity litigator. Surprising to me, this is the second or third perceivingly negative thing they have done concerning Angle this week. You won't hear it from me often so, "good for you Las Vegas Review Journal!"

If it isn't music, it's logos or published material. Republicans seem to have a passionate disregard for copyright law.

It would seem that they are only pro-business to the extent that it does not interfere with their campaigning.

It has been a while since they respected the law.

I respect Sharron immensely. Here's a woman who stands up for what she believes at all times without apology. Copyright laws are, and always have been, part of the Socialist plot to overthrow this great nation and she's just not having any of it.

I think the best kind of sarcasm is when it sounds almost real.

I'd be strongly willing to bet this very website has violated the same infringement laws. this is rampant on the web, causing all kinds of tortgasms. the reality is majority of these lawsuits are bs

Someone is caught stealing and the best defense you can come up with is lots of other people steal too?

Hope you aren't a lawyer.

Just when they thought she had grown,
All of their hopes have been blown;
Sharron shows that good speech,
Remains just out of reach,
As her best work is never her own.
