Metal Water Bottle

http://earth911.com/news/2010/09/06/how-to-recycle-a-metal-water-bottle/:

Unlike disposable plastic bottles, most curbside recycling programs will not accept your sturdy steel bottle. One reason is that these programs typically crush and bale material for easy transport, and stainless steel bottles are generally uncrushable. But metal bottles are recyclable.

I don't even use a metal water bottle b/c of all the health hazards that I couldn't sort through. I found a re-usable bottle with a glass interior (it's for tea, actually) but it works for water, too. The company that makes it is called Libre Tea www.libretea.com and it's my only bottle! Love it. Good for hot and cold water.

Yes, that is how reuse works. This article is about recylcing. The time will come when the bottle can no longer be used, what will you do with it then?

Remember that there are three parts to waste management: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. You need to do all three parts, not just one or two.

"Yes, that is how reuse works. This article is about recylcing. The time will come when the bottle can no longer be used, what will you do with it then?"

From what I can gather from the intertubes, the half-life of stainless steel is 1.5Ă—10 to the power 17 Years so what I'll probably be doing is wondering why I'm alive long after our sun has burned out, and where did I put that pesky recycling bin, more or less.

The interiors of most metal drink bottles are coated with epoxy or sometimes PET. It's not a major problem for recycling, though, because the polymer will burn off in the blast furnace, and the residue will precipitate out with the slag.

I use reusable HDPE bottles ordered from a laboratory supply website. They are durable, translucent, and dishwasher safe. They're also lighter and more insulated than metal bottles, and they are accepted for #2 plastic recycling.

Most HDPE is made from petroleum, but in Brazil they make it from sugarcane ethanol. In comparison to other bioplastics, HDPE is as economical to produce as PLA but vastly more durable, although not readily biodegradable.

why would you need to recycle your metal water bottle??? that is the reason you get a metal one, it lasts forever and you don't need to be bad to the environment buying new ones.

if they're made of stainless steel, don't. they're perfect just as they are.

Klean Kanteen's tops are made from plastic number 5, have the symbol right on them, and can go right into the recycling bin. People should also choose stainless steel over aluminum because stainless steel is already 60% recycled content while most aluminum water bottles are virgin/raw which has 10 times the carbon footprint than stainless steel.

Instruction for Recycling Bottles:
* Drop on ground
* Smash with foot
* Throw in trash Can

Rationale: This is the least expensive way to sequester this valuable resource in a place where we will be mining for resources when it becomes economically viable.

Messing with it in any other way is MORE expensive than the material is actually worth!!!!! This is FACT. Do a little research on "Tip Fees" or other subsidy mechanisms that apply to this time of residential recycle initiative. They are NOT sustainable. Industrial efforts do however work due to aggregation factors.

If you've reused it enough, it doesn't matter. It's work is done.
