Its a story as old as the movie companies themselves. The have been cheating the script writers, the screenplay writers and the original writers out of their negotiated compensation through the use of cooked books and phony and exaggerated expense items. I believe that Art Buchwaldt, the columnist, write the original screenplay. It was his idea that he brought to the studio. He was to get a percentage of the net profits. According to the studio, there were no net profits. The most successful movie. up till that time, movie ever made, actually lost money according to the movie company. So cheating the on the part of movie executives is nothing new.
