Sharron Angle Addresses 'Second Amendment Remedies': Revolution Is 'Possible'

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/08/10 06:09 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:35 PM ET

Sharron Angle Revolution Possible

Tea Party-backed Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle again fielded questions about some of her more controversial statements Wednesday, including those about "Second Amendment remedies" and "domestic enemies" in Congress, and again chose to explain them as perfectly acceptable and logical rather than walk them back.

Asked by ABC News's Jon Karl to clarify an earlier conversation regarding the role of "Second Amendment remedies" in combating a "tyrannical" government, Sharron Angle at first shied away from the answer, then claimed that the entire exchange was taken out of context. In the end, however, she maintained that she believed a "revolutionary situation" was indeed "possible."

KARL: And of course, Jefferson said the tree of liberty needs to be fed with the blood of tyrants from time to time. But do you really can you foresee us getting into a situation where there is such anger in this country that we're in a revolutionary situation again?

ANGLE: Well, I think at the conclusion of that discussion, I said I hope not.

KARL: But, but you think it's possible? I mean hoping...

ANGLE: Well, of course, anything is possible, I suppose.

Karl then pressed Angle on her comments concerning so-called "domestic enemies in Congress," to which she again replied that the original statement was removed from its intended context.

Here's how Angle expounded on the remarks:

ANGLE: In context, we were talking about the policies of the government that have really caused problems for us in the past 18 months. We have seen policies come down that have really become the enemy of the people.

KARL: Do we have enemies of the country in the halls of Congress?

ANGLE: Certainly people who pass these kinds of policies -- Obamacare, cap and trade, stimulus, bailout -- they're certainly not friends to the free market system.

KARL: So, so what are they?

ANGLE: (laughs) They're not friends.

Angle has been provided with ample opportunities to walk back her usage of both the "Second Amendment remedy" and "domestic enemies" phrases, yet each time she has instead chosen to justify them and attack the context in which the media has chosen to place them.

In an interview with CNN earlier this week, Angle played down the importance of her rhetoric -- which has triggered many attacks from her opponent, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid -- and announced that she would in fact be a "mainstream senator," a claim that she repeated in her interview with ABC News.

You might be a domestic enemy if:

-you declare “this war is lost” while American troops fighting that war are still in harm’s way
-you vote to confirm Supreme Court Justices who do not believe the Constitution establishes the right to keep and bear arms
-you promise transparency to the American people, then continue with as many back door deals as you like, on the largest legislation issues of our time
-you craft and ram through Congress, through threats, blackmail, and bribery, a bill that requires, as a condition of citizenship, the purchase of health care insurance
-you actually believe that race should dictate what party you belong to (e.g., “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage can be a Republican”)
-your policies have resulted in the worst unemployment rate since the Great Depression, yet --you continue down the same path

Ms. Angles suggestion of 2nd Amendment remedies is no more sedition, than having a goon walk into your place of buisiness and suggesting that a mere $200/month can prevent " something bad happening to it" is extortion.
Oh, wait, that is extortion.

This is about political intimidation and the threat of violence that the "Second Amendment remedy" implies; this is unConstitutional and unAmerican. We don't settle political differences with guns in the USA. We are not Somalia.

Interesting that some poor goof on Facebook posted a poll about Obama and was promptly investigated by the Secret Service. How can this woman get away with veiled threats against elected politicians? I wish the FBI would show up and ask her to explain herself.....

Sharron Angle's website for her campaign:

Sharron has been endorsed by the Gun Owners of America and has an "A" rating with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Wayne LaPierre, NRA, has not made a statement about Sharron Angle's "Second Amendment remedies..." remark, nor denying the so-called NRA grade of "A" the candidate lists on her website.

Has the NRA asked Sharron Angle to remove the NRA grade of "A" from her website; perhaps, to replace it with an "F" for her irresponsible statements? Or, does the NRA support Sharron Angle?

Gun Owners of America has given Senator Harry Reid an "F." According to Sharron Angle.
The NRA does not endorse Reid this year. However, Reid includes the NRA's enthusiastic endorsement letter from 2009 on his campaign website. (Fickle NRA ...)

Your comments seem puzzled as to why the NRA, an organization devoted to marksmanship and the 2d Amendment, does not denounce Angle, who's remarks are pro-Constitution. Why are you puzzled? Is it that you don't understand anyone who supports the Constitution, not being one yourself?

She's puzzled, I believe, by your associates' vehement denial that Angle has, in any way, been endorsed or supported by the NRA, despite Angle's open claim to the contrary. And "support" of the Constitution seems, by your definition, to include advocacy of armed insurrection. In our current political climate, that is treasonous, and should be dealt with as such.

If you will read the Constitution carefully you will note the 14th Amendment protects "Privileges and Immunities" , obviously the citizenry who desire an "immunity" from lethal firearms and those who propose to invade every venue with same, have the same constitutional rights, correct? Or are you in favor of your rights and to he ...// with everyone else's....

The NRA being devoted to the 2nd Amendment and marksmanship is akin to claiming the K...k...K...was devoted to clean sheets.....

Sharron, Sharron, Sharron, the 2nd Amendment states that you have the right to bear arms in a WELL REGULATED MILITIA. Our country had no standing army when the 2nd Amendment was written. A WELL REGULATED militia was deemed necessary to PRESERVE our country not overthrow it. You and her pals in the Hutaree militia have deluded yourselves into thinking you're fighting tyranny, when in fact you represent it.

Sorry Sharron, the constitution doesn't grant you a right to gun down elected leaders, and terrorize your fellow citizens when they have the audacity to democratically elect a black man president or more politicians with a "D" following their name than a "R". After suffering 8 years of a man who received fewer votes than his democratic opponent in 2000, entered our country into two unfunded wars, oversaw the privatization of our military (Blackwater), etc, Democrats were given control of Congress and the Presidency by THE PEOPLE. Carrying guns to "protests" is infantile foot stomping and shows nothing more than tea baggers' desire to terrorize "real" Americans. Grow up. You're not revolutionary generals preventing "socialism", you're spoiled terrorists subverting democracy! Timothy McVeigh didn't represent "the people", he murdered them.

Sharron, you don't have a 2nd Amendment right to overthrow our democratically elected government or gun down the people's represnetatives. If you think you do, at the very least we should regulate your medications

Sorry, you really should look into the meaning of regulated as our Founders intended. It is not the Army, Reserves, or Guard. Look into U.S. Code for the definition of militia.

10:25 PM on 09/09/2010
Sorry, you really need to learn the meaning of "well regulated". An unorganized militia doesn't mean "unregulated", and it certainly doesn't give you the right to execute democratically elected leaders. That's murder and treason.

Since you are making that assertion, perhaps you can fill us in. No generalities, please.
Chapter and verse.
The publics right to bear arms is settled law.
The public's lack of right to foment rebellion is also settled law.

Sharron Angle is an anarchist. She claims to believe in the Constitution and democracy. Yet, she keeps bringing this 2d Amendment Remedy up. What she is saying, in effect, is: democracy where votes count and the majority rules is NOT what she is in favor of. If she doesn't get her way, then, like a spoiled child, she will act out until she gets what she wants. That's not democracy and that's not outlined anywhere in the Constitution. Why does Ms. Angle hate the Constitution, democracy and the US?

Excellent questions, Samnchgo. Why? And who else thinks like Sharron Angle? The NRA gave her an "A" grade and has not denied that fact as listed on her campaign website.
05:39 PM on 09/09/2010
Love how she's equating enemies of the people with enemies of the free market system. Because, of course, they are one in the same.

And yet again I find myself unable to end my comment with anything other than a resounding UGH.

I am voting for Angle because:

1. She knows the value of chicken bartering and how relevant fowl are to universal healthcare in this country....
2. She suggests "a second amendment solution" for the problems of government and I haven't carried my sidearm in public since the last Starbucks visit...
3. She is well aware that the color black is satanic and has no place in the sacred practice of high school football....
4. She is for "smaller" government interference, and I agree, but wait until my SSI check arrives.
5. She uses religion to make her point about politics and we all know the Founding Fathers encouraged religion in the politics of the nation, as long as it was the correct religion.

Sharron has my vote!

Would that be the policies that had our unemployment at it's historic low levels for the first 6 years of Bush? Or the policies that had our economy steaming along at terrific levels? Or would it be the policies that Republicans and Democrats agreed on which de-regulated the financial industry and forced the banking industry to lend money to people who had no business getting any such loans?!
