Quran Burning

The Massachusetts Bible Society will give away two copies of the Quran for every one that Rev. Terry Jones and his congregation burn on Sep. 11.

Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., has said that he and his congregation will commemorate the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by burning copies of the Islamic holy book.

In response, MassBible, which historically gives away Bibles, has promised to donate Qurans to prisons, hospitals, shelters, and "any place where there are Muslims without access to their sacred text."

In a press release, MassBible wrote, "As people of the Book, we are joined to Islam and Judaism in a special way and as an organization that has sought to put that Book into people's hands for 201 years, we cannot stand idly by while the sacred text of a sister religion is burned as our beloved Bibles once were."

The organization said that in denouncing Jones' act, it hopes to dispel the notion that Jones' position represents that of all Christians.

The naivite' (and dare I say, sheer stupidity) of some of the responders to ""Mass Bible" is off the charts! First off, let me say that if you are a non-religious person, you should see that the issue is clearly one of civil rights (which belong to citizens of what used to be the United States of America.) Your emotions or mine don't accomplish anything. Don't lash out in hatred toward Rev Jones' "hate!" He has a public right to demonstrate, petition, etc., and is legally protected in doing so--providing he doesn't violate another's civil rights. Those who call themselves "Christians" are without excuse for the spiritual blindness which calls Islam "Our sister religion," and wanting to promote the Islamic hate-book. Make no mistake: Islam, whose god is false as well as its "prophet," is absolutely set on destroying the "infidels"...specifially, Jews and Christians, who are routinely maimed, totrured, imprisoned, and killed in the countries where Islam has a stronghold. Check out Voice of the Martyrs newsletter for yourself, and read the blood-curdling accounts of the atrocities against the followers of the God of Israel and His Son Jesus the Messiah. To burn a quran (or a Bible for that matter) is not the same as burning someone alive, which Muslims are doing (in addition to other unspeakable atrocities). Wake up, Sheeple of Obamastan! And get out of Christendom, which has its own bloody history of atrocities against the people of God!

If you want to make the claim that the God of Islam is false, you need to also believe that the God of Judaism and Christianity is also false, since all three faiths share the same God. If you claim otherwise, you are either being deceptive or lying.

Do you also deny that Muslims were also routinely maimed, tortured, imprisoned and killed by the Crusaders and also presently by the IDF and American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan?

You cannot hold one religion accountable for the actions of its followers, just as Muslims do not hold Judaism and Christianity accountable for the crimes committed by its followers.

Volvo claims to be a safe car. If a drunk driver, driving a Volvo, kills a family of five, would you consider the Volvo to be any less safe? It's not the Volvo's fault that it was misused.

This is the America that I know! This is the America and the American people that champion freedom, cooperation and understanding. Understanding, sensitive and courageous Americans will go a long way to place water a fire that was sending America on a deadly course.

The members of the Massachusetts Bible Society are behaving like Christians. Those burnig Qurans are behaving like bigots.

Book burning is so scary...no matter what book is burned, to me the act is the opposite of civilized society. It's a bunch of people standing around an wild, open flame celebrating the lack of access to ideas, knowledge and scholarship.

I'm glad that the Massachusetts Bible Society is doing its best to mitigate that act of book burning. Yes, they'll get media attention, but more importantly they're standing up for human civilization. I won't begrudge them their good press - though unfortunately, they'll probably get much less than the burning itself.

The people want to see fire, destruction and death. Existential stress and mass distrust of the government will do that to a nation. Very scary, what the corporate media market figures will fascinate us...very scary, that they figure accurately.

I would much rather see them give food/money to the flood victims in Pakistan or to the people of Darfur instead of passing out Qurans. However I guess they figure this gesture will bring more attention to their organization.

Good begets good. Evil begets evil. Maybe this act of generosity will inspire others to give to the Pakistani flood victims. We cannot criticize an act of good for being too small. The mighty oak started off as a little acorn.

A number of Christian organizations have been donating to the flood victims in Pakiston. But this is about refuting religious bigotry & intolerance. I commend the Massachusetts Bible Society.

I know that there are many Christians who are appalled by this guys words and actions. They are in the majority just like the majority of Jews and Muslims are peaceful people simply trying to get by in life.

Yes! Finally! Words and action that reflects America's greatness instead of its worst blemishes.
