Mayor Daley's Greatest Hits (VIDEO)

First Posted: 9/9/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Say what you will about Richard M. Daley--but he is the definition of a Chicago character. From his undeniable South Side accent to his sometimes interesting word choices, there has been no shortage of golden quotes or hilariously bizarre moments in his 21-year-reign.

As seemingly every Chicago politician mulls a mayoral bid and we think about the future, we wanted to share a hilarious Daley montage put together by the folks at WGN. (Which we saw via Chicagoist.)

Do you have a favorite (or at least noteworthy) Daley moment? Let us know in the comments or email us at chicago@huffingtonpost.com.

How much of a kickback does someone get when they sell something that isnt theirs for 6 billion dollars less than it is worth? A hundred million? 40 million?

Of course he is retiring..

The parking deal makes me sick every time I think about it. My blood pressure rises every time I put money into one of those machines...

I fantasize about building a website where people can put in the address of where they are going, and it will inkjet print 'novelty' parking passes for them.

a relatively simple thing to do... especially with some programming help... i could probably just barely pull it off myself. ;)

How about a clip show of all his denials of knowing anything each time a scandal broke? It might be an hour long, but I'd watch it.

What's the difference between Mayor Daley and George W. Bush? Daley has common sense. Everyone laugh now. Ok stop.

whoever edited that video does not live in Chicago. Daley is known for crazy actions and quotes and that video showcases none of them.

There's nothing at all hilarious regarding the way this mayor has essentially left Chicago bankrupt.

Unfortunately that aspect is not going to be discussed. The media has already gone into tribute mode and will do so until he leaves office.

Maybe that's best until the deadline to turn in nominating petitions has passed. If he realizes how awful his legacy is he might be inclined to run again.

Chicago will never be the same again, unless we get another Daley to run this place! We don't want to be like the rest of the American cities run by interlopers!!

How about Trevor Daley, defense man for the NHLs Dallas Stars. I know you were not talking about another member of the Daley crime family, were you?

It's fashionable to gripe about corruption and low ratings in the polls, but the fact is Daley is respected not only in Chicago but around the world for re-inventing this city and making it the envy of the world. Without the Daley legacy, Chicago is open to uncertainty and disorganization. With the current economic problems, this is not the time to change management.

Now that he's leaving everybody loves him. In the past number of years all I've heard from people is how terrible he is and how he screwed up the parking meter deal, and how the olympics was his pet project to secure his own "legacy" and blah blah. Now it's the reverse: All I've heard is positive things in the past few days since his announcement. I find that interesting.

One thing cannot be argued- Richard J. and Richard M. are Chicago legends.

It can be compared to the death of any individual who inspired passion in a culture. You are correct. No matter what you felt about the man he was a Chicago original. I will miss him. I will especially miss his candor.

Al Capone is also a Chicago legend!

The last of the political class that showed his true emotions and was proud to. Best of health and luck to the Major and his family.
