Snooki BUSTED For Texting-While-Driving By Newark Mayor

Snooki Twitter Bust

A series of tweets by Jersey Shore's Snooki got the reality-show starlet in trouble with Newark, New Jersey mayor Cory Booker.

"Ugh stuck in newark traffic is no fun," Snooki tweeted, followed some twenty minutes later by a second post, "Omg why I got a stick shift I will never know. Stop and go traffic I'm killen myself here :(."

The tweet caught Booker's eye, and the mayor responded on Twitter, "Snooki! I'm the mayor where R U so I can give u a ticket 4 texting & driving we needs revenue! RT @Sn00ki Ugh stuck in Nwk traffic is no fun."

Another Twitter user asked Booker whether Snooki had heard of Oprah's "No Phone Zone" pledge, a campaign to curb texting-while driving. "Definitely going 2 tell @Oprah on her. @sn00ki needs an intervention," Booker replied.

United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood even joined in, praising Booker--and his Snooki bust--for "for spreading the word about the dangers of texting while driving."

She was "stopped", not driving. Just one of those technicalities that saves you having to put your cellphone in a second following car, to prevent you from touching it inadvertently.

First thing I thought? Why in the name of all things good and holy is the MAYOR following SNOOKI on Twitter?!? And why would he advertise that fact to the world?

short of news today because this is lame....

If she was stuck in traffic, was she really driving? How many people have been able to put their cars in park in dealing with traffic? in NJ? I think you can text and "drive" responsibly. For example, if you're not moving, whatever you want to do should be ok. If you're moving, you should worry about that movement.

I text and "drive" all the time. I do it at stop lights especially. Some of these lights in NY are so long I can mash out a few text msgs on my BB. And, when it's time to move, msg done or not, I put the phone down and concentrate on the road.

But, if you're actually moving and texting, that's no bueno.

Why don't you drink, too, while you're at it?
09:36 AM on 09/14/2010
I do that as well. I drink water, cranberry juice, orange juice, and some times I'll even drink a Sprite! I may even eat or look at the paper.

But, no matter how snide and petty you want to be in your comment, I'll always do it when my vehicle is NOT moving. When my vehicle is moving, I concentrate on the road.

Is it that difficult for you to understand? Perhaps you even believe that you shouldn't listen to the radio, change the station, pop in a CD, etc etc etc. Those are distractions as well, all of which could lead to accidents.

In all of those activities I have the sense to know that there's a time and place to do it and that's when I am stopped. It's called being responsible. Why don't you discuss your habits? I'd like to hear how many times you've put lives in danger during your drive!

I highly doubt you're as conscious as me when it comes to being behind the wheel.

I'm not sure whats worse, that she was texting while sitting in gridlock, or that the mayor follows her tweets.

newark has awful traffic patterns, awful parking, cabs with graffti and no leg room and foreign drivers who talk on the phone charge $56 to drive 8 miles straight no stops.  Newark is the worst city and this is how booker spends his time.

America is all a buzz about the cartoonish people on Jersey shores; is this what we have become?

You mean as opposed to the Golden Age of America where people had Socratic dialogs and only thought of elevated things?

No fan, but has anyone ever heard of a dead stop in heavy traffic. NO ONE asked if she was moving in traffic. Just a question: Is this very busy Mayor a cop? Or can any city official issue a traffic ticket in NJ? I do know that issuing tickets is the major industry of NJ or is that prosecution corrupt politician?

Text while behind the wheel is against the law in most States that have no-texting laws. It doesn't matter if your car is in a dead stop in heave traffic or in moving travvid.

Would a ticket for texting violate her probation for drinking? At least she wasn't drinking, driving and texting, was she?

She's not on probation. She received two days of community service for her disorderly conduct and the charges were dropped.

Makes me happier everyday that we have been without broadcast TV in our home for the past 6 years. If this is what it has to offer, I can imagine paying $50 a month for the priviledge.

I just recently got rid of our cable ... with that being said, I have never seen this show or many of the other cable reality shows. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to watch it.

I didn't know who she was at first. Then I heard. I wouldn't watch this show for anything. Not even money. I have much better, life-enhancing things to do.

What makes it ridiculous is that you not only clicked but commented. Want real news, you might try and leave the headlines with Snookie's name in them alone.
