David Haye Won't Apologize For 'Gang Rape' Comment (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 09/10/10 10:47 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:35 PM ET

Heavyweight boxer David Haye wrote on Twitter that he will not apologize for saying his title fight on Nov. 15 against Audley Harrison will be as "one-sided as a gang rape."

Haye tweeted, "If I apologised for every stupid/ignorant thing i said, I wouldn't have time for anything else during the day!"

According to The Guardian, Haye's comments received criticism from women's groups and charities.

Chief executive of Rape Crisis Yvonne Traynor said Haye showed "a serious lack of judgment" by making the comparison and called his comment "tasteless."

I don't like David Haye. He will lose title the moments after he faces a decent opponent, but I admire his response. It's refreshing and honest. Tip of my hat to David Haye!

I never heard of David Haye before this(I haven't watched Boxing since the 90's) but I also agree I'm glad he didn't walk back his comments. It's sicking to see how P.C. western society is becoming(UK,USA being the worst it seems). He was trash talking womens groups need to chill they have already emasculated men enough as it is. Where's Al Bundy when we need him.

"...womens groups need to chill they have already emasculated men enough as it is."

Men in general haven't been emasculated, junior. Maybe you're just speaking out because you're feeling emasculated.

And trying to bring Al Bundy in as some kind of role model for men is just asinine.

His mother must be so proud. If this isn't a stellar case-in-point in favour of birth control and abortion, I don't know what is.

If he ever goes to jail, he will be the victim of lots of gang rapes.

Gang Raping just isn't for women.

Geeeeeeez, he's a boxer. A violent sport, a violent language, get over it.

Disturbing & scarey. I know they are just "words" but this dosent make the violent image that enters the mind for a split second upon reading or hearing the "words" any less disturbing.

I've got an idea - keep quiet more and fewer stupid/ignorant things will come out..

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, boxers were characters that, whereas they may have lacked much of a formal education, they still had a certain class.

Wow has that ship ever sailed.....

Boxers have been saying things like this since forever, and believe this, they NEVER really make much sense to normal people anyways. Yes, they're insensitive--but look who we're talking about here--not quite rocket scientists, right?

So, live with the silly macho talk--or stick to checkers.

He presumably meant he intends to leave Audley Harrison ‘severely traumatised, terrified etc.’ and Good Luck to him; that is par for the course with heavyweight boxing, an activity you would be advised to avoid if you expect to encounter delicacy and refinement.

I think there's way too much media coverage driven by the idea -- let's trot out the next stupid, horrible thing somebody said so that people who want to be angry will have something to rant about.
We have a lot of actual, real important things to be angry about nowadays -- like the decades-long redistribution of wealth to rich people, etc., etc. etc. So, the boxer is a jerk -- but not noteworthy, IMO.
Maybe if someone said corporate/Wall Street interests and their pawns in Congress are "gang raping" the poor and the middle class, such issues would get more attention.
