What's considered a small town these days? Since so many towns are extensions of cities, it's hard to find the real thing anymore. Is 50,000 a small town? We think so, but some may think that's large. Here are 11 small towns that range from the minute (roughly 2,400) to the major (roughly 38,000).

In the western part of Texas lies Marfa, a town famous for its mysterious lights and burgeoning art community. The bigger draw, of course, are the famous Marfa Lights, which were first sighted in 1883 and remain a mystery today. Higher-brow attractions include the
Chinati Foundation, a contemporary art museum focusing on large-scale installation founded by artist Donald Judd.
