Chicago Magazine Names Chicago's Top 40 Buildings (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 09/13/10 02:08 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:40 PM ET

For months, Chicago magazine has been running "Top 40" lists to celebrate their 40th anniversary and highlight the best Chicago films, music, art and now--architecture.

In an effort to prove that "Chicago reigns as the country's architectural king," Chicago mag's Geoffrey Johnson points to structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Daniel Burnham--among many others.

"Nothing defines the city more than its architecture," writes Johnson, who limited the list to buildings that are still standing. Here are ten of the beautiful Chicago structures that made the cut. Check out the full list, explanations by Johnson and more photos here.

I'm a high desert girl through and through, but I could so live in Chicago. One of my favorite cities in the world! And that crib's not bad, either.

My pictures (of the same spots) are way better.

Your name is so fitting. Although I'm certain you're kidding..... right?

They only showed a few of the real good ones. Aqua, Trump Tower, The Wrigley Building, Stone Building (Diamon faced), 311 S Wacker, Prudential Place, Buckingham Fountain, The BEAN, not too mention the museums and dozens of other high rises.

It's really beautiful. Everyone has to see the NY or CHI skyline once in their lives.

Plano, Illinois isn't Chicago. But I'm happy to see the Sears Tower with its original name, as it should be.

Cheers for Sears

Fav'd and fan'd. No one in the Chicago land area refers to it any differently.

What about Marshall Fields? Are they calling it Macy's these days?
