Roses may no longer be a prelude to a romantic dinner date, but the main course itself.
In this video, Reuters reports from Quito, Ecuador, where organic rose petals are becoming a novelty dish in popular restaurants.
Maria Jose Torres, a customer at the Zazu Restaurant, tells Reuters, "I've never tasted something like this before. It was great."
Although Ecuador's flower export market is worth $600 million annually, grower Robert Nevado says edible roses aren't profitable just yet, but considers it an investment. "We think there might be a future in that," he says.
