Farah Ghaemi and her three children, who live in Gorton, have won a judicial review regarding their refugee status.
The family have recently been held at Yarlswood detention centre and were due to be deported at dawn this morning.
Mrs Ghaemi’s MP, Gerald Kaufman (Manchester Gorton, Lab.), intervened on her behalf to delay the deportation. The judicial review hearing has been set for Wednesday 22 September.
Mrs Ghaemi, a widowed businesswoman, fled Iran in June 2009, after the authorities there claimed they had found a banned copy of The Satanic Verses in their home. They settled in Manchester.
Solicitors for the Ghaemi family have produced fresh evidence, including a copy of the Iranian arrest warrant and a witness statement from a policeman involved in the case, neither of which had previously been seen by UK immigration officials. Next week’s judicial review may be the family’s final opportunity to win their case.

For those condemning Islam - yes, frankly, Islam opens the door to this behaviour, but so then does Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism. No doubt even Jains would be quite nasty if they found themselves with the power. But the thing is, this isn't really about Islam.

This is about a cabal of men, who want total, unquestioned power, and who are facing a more and more disaffected population. A group of men who recently had to rig an election in the crudest way to put some gloss on their despotism. Yes, they use Islam as the cover, but Islam like any religion is open to interpretation (else why all the schools of thought and complex theological discussions about it), and they have chosen the one that keeps them in power and the people oppressed. Christianity has done the same.

Yes, stoning this woman, any person, is repugnant, but then so is tying electrodes to a mans testicles (actions the USA happily approved of in Chile). So is blowing up a house-full of children to get at one *suspected* terrorist (as the USA happily approves of in Israel), so is gassing helpless women and children (as the USA happily helped Saddam do to the Kurds) so are many things.

Franco was a devout Catholic, should all Christians then be condemned for his actions? Condemn the government, not the people who aren't even linked to this mockery of justice.

Not really, the Mullahs haven't started a war or genocide. Bad, mad, dangerous to women yes; genocidal nut jobs, not quite.

Exactly what books are they burning?

Books that even smack of historical revisionism.

The campaign to demonize the IRI is very selective in its indignation; the savagery of execution by stoning-must be pointed out and emphasized at every turn; the savagery of other methods of execution such as beheading, lethal injection, firing squad-or mass execution by helicopter gunship, predator drone, cruise missile, or high level bombing isn't relevant at all-since Iran is so high on the list of adversaries and, for the time being, Saudi Arabia and Israel so high on the list of allies. Stoning an Iranian woman is much, much more barbaric than, say, deliberately crushing an American woman to death with a bulldozer; burying an entire village under the stones and rubble created by a Predator drone strike is so humane.
And then, it becomes all about "freedom of the press" as if Iran was under the same laws, say, as the EU, which selectively decides what is "a free press" and what is forbidden historical research-"hate literature" punishable by imprisonment and yes-the books are burned.
What is this campaign of demonization going to accomplish? Boycott Persian rugs? Is demonizing the IRI for the purpose of inciting the readers to outrage going and direct action, such as boycotting Persian rugs, or refusing to put gasoline in their cars? Or is it merely conditioning the public for the enthusiastic acceptance of Operation Iranian Freedom?

If Allah, really existed  would she  really have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt her  existence?

She's a hero. And  distribution of non-conformist texts  which Iranian theocracy fears is an  important aspect of a struggle again this preposterous regime.

Is it my imagination or do the mullah-dudes in Iran sentence only (mainly?) women to death by stoning? It's also worth remembering the obvious: that these death-sentence offenses would not even bring a person to court in most countries.

Reading stories like this remind me how well thought out our Constitution was.

I am glad our Founding Father made sure the State did not have one Religion and that religion was not infused into the Constitution.

She and her family are seeking ASYLUM. She and her family should be able to stay. This is not a reflection on ALL of Islam. Gawd forbid a religion be made into a scapegoat for a government's oppressive laws ...A government using it's nation's god in exploitation to make it's laws more serious? Hmmm where have I heard THAT before...

This will show the true hypocrisy of the west if there is slightest consideration for returning this mother of 2 back to be stoned.
