Lady Gaga's Meat Dress: Offensive Or Awesome? (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 09/13/2010 12:11 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 5:35 pm

Lady Gaga looked almost conservative when she accepted the "Video of the Year" award for "Bad Romance" at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night. But when she remarked "I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse," we realized what her get-up (dress, hat, shoes, and purse) was actually made of. Earlier this month, Gaga wore a meat bikini for the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan. @GagaDaily reports the dress was
made by Franc Fernandez.

This meatdress looks cute, but the other one in her meaty-waldrobe collection looks creepy. Photos: http://bit.ly/clbClV --- And this halloween collection as well. http://bit.ly/c2qnbH

Offensive or awesome is the wrong question. The fact is, the dress is awesome because it is offensive, so there is no question to ask, both words must appear together. The impact of Lady Gaga's dress rests on the fact that she shockingly sports the other side of what hundreds of thousands of people have worn for millenia: fur. When we see fur worn, we are not shocked, we think warmth, wealth, softness, tradition, class, and more sympathic people will protest fur because it comes from animals. When we see raw meat worn however, we are startled and offended. How could she? Gross! Yuk! Eeeuw, it smells, its wet, flies will come, how can she sit down? Yes the origins of fur and meat are identical, one in the same: live animals deprived of their natural future. Thank you Lady Gaga and Franc Fernandez for underlining the hypocritical offensive contradictions that the fashion industry and its consumers make commonplace every day. i love animals...but people who are vegetarians because of animal cruelty are stupid. GOD MADE ANIMALS FOR US TO EAT !!! DO YOU WANT MORE DEER TO CAUSE MORE CAR ACCIDENTS THAT KILL PEOPLE?????????? THINK ABOUT IT..........
07:18 AM on 10/29/2010
As an atheist and a vegetarian, I am incredibly disgusted and offended by that statement. Animals are their own beings. They are not ours to eat, and they're not ours at all. They don't deserve to be used, and we don't have the right to. If "God" made animals for us to eat, he must be an extremely cruel person to give them thoughts, feelings, and the ability to feel pain.

Your logic makes absolutely no sense. Drunk drivers cause car accidents, too, and those result in many more deaths than the very few deaths caused by deer running across the street. Should we kill and eat drunk drivers, too? By your logic, we should.

Eating animals leads to increases in obesity, heart disease, and many more. It is a myth that you can't get the proper nutrients from a vegetarian diet. There are more environmentally-friendly, nutritious ways for us to get what we need to survive. By no means do we need the rotting flesh of a tortured animal to sustain us.

This meatdress has become so popular the idea is now used on halloween costumes as well. http://bit.ly/aeVoo6

It's neither offensive OR awesome. I know a need for attention when I see it.

You nailed it. Gaga is the anthropomorphization of a cry for attention.

I would even wager that 'Gaga is the anthropomorphization of the anthropomorphization' of a cry for attention. : P

WHERE ARE PETA'S PETS AT? WHAT, NO MONUMENTAL PROTEST? LADY GAG GAG IS THE WHITE COLOR! UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP!

Considering it was not real meat, and she achieved the uproar of moronic media and organizations before getting their facts straight, she is probably the most affective model of proving so many points ... in other words... "awesome" ... but only because my only other choice was "offensive". If anything, the use of the word "awesome" is offensive, being 2010.

a statement against treating women as pieces of meat?
ironic in a way, since the music industry often focuses on making women sex objects for money, rather than masterful singers and song writers

I can only imagine how rancid the post-coital smell must have been for the poor lout who woke up next to her in bed the morning after the VMA's.

I'm not offended because I'm a vegetarian, I'm offended by the waste of food. Meat is food, not a fabric. Also, I feel sorry for anyone who had to be within smelling range of her.

amazing.

I like Gaga's reason for wearing the meat dress, and I don't think the meat was wasted because they turned it into jerky. And she's right, it's no different and no more offensive than wearing leather. And killing the cows for her dress is no different than killling them for meat and a purse.
