Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will give a financial boost to fellow tea party favorite Rand Paul by headlining a fundraiser in Louisville later this week for the Republican Senate candidate.
A statement released by Paul's camp said:
On Thursday, September 16, Sarah Palin will be in Kentucky on behalf of Dr. Rand Paul's campaign for U.S. Senate.
The Rand Paul Victory Kentucky lunchtime fundraising event, where Palin will appear as a special guest, will take place in Louisville at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Palin -- the GOP's vice presidential candidate in 2008 -- endorsed Paul during the primary, when the Bowling Green eye surgeon defeated another candidate backed by much of Kentucky's Republican establishment.
Paul, a first-time candidate, is running against Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway. They are vying for the seat of Republican Sen. Jim Bunning, who is retiring after two terms.
Both candidates are stockpiling as much campaign cash as possible for the coming blitz of television advertising. Last week, Paul put out a request to his supporters to raise more than $350,000 in the next two weeks.
