Bill Maher Talks Glenn Beck's 'Diabetic Mall-Walkers,' Summer Of Racism (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/14/10 07:39 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:40 PM ET

Bill Maher recaps the summer of 2010 in the first "Real Time" broadcast since the show's summer hiatus.

In the clip sent exclusively to the Huffington Post in advance of Maher's Sept. 17 return, the comedian observes the "amazing advances in the field of racism" that dominated the season.

From Andrew Breitbart's edited clip of a former USDA employee "admitting" to reverse racism, to Dr. Laura Schlessinger's n-word rant (and Palin's subsequent support), Maher points out the most racist headlines.

Also high on Maher's list: Glenn Beck's exploitation of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.

Maher: "Someone had to point out that white people have been getting the short end of the stick for too long. Like with jobs. Black people are always first in line with all the jobs. Are you seriously telling me that they couldn't find a white Karate Kid? And that Glenn Beck is the heir to Martin Luther King? You know, I have a dream too: one day all Americans will stop buying anything Glenn Beck says."

From Beck's Martin Luther King moment, Maher segues to the so-called "Ground Zero mosque":

Maher: "Now when they weren't praying in the capital and trying to show the cuddlier side of hate and ignorance, Beck and his army of diabetic mallwalkers were losing their shit over the Ground Zero mosque. Which wasn't at Ground Zero and wasn't a mosque."

Maher slams Obama for backing off his early support for the Islamic center, then comments on BP's disappearing oil spill and explains why America is like Levi Johnston when it comes to the nation's withdrawal from Iraq.

B.M. - "Reverse Racism" is the main story of the summer for you? And you "get to use the 'n' word" in your comedy musings because why? It's what? Satire? No, it's the same inverted reasoning which Dr. Laura - whom I can't stand - used, thinking, I suppose, her "honesty" would up her ratings.

The frustration of Republicans, Democrats and Independents that expect our economic recovery to be expedited by our representatives, should be focus on GLENN BECK, with his malicious conspiracy theories, Beck has turned a movement about fiscal responsibility into the HOOLIGANISM based politics that the TEA PARTY represents today because it is alienating true Republicans to deal with important problems like Taxes or Immigration so Americans end up with a dysfunctional Government.

how can it be a double standard bs when people were saying she was exercising her constitutional rights. wasn't he? BTW he was calling it like it is and "loud tribesman, Kenyan " was Gingrich way of saying the 'n' word. very different from Dr Laura.
04:41 PM on 09/29/2010
You've let a word take away your power. The 'N' word is just that, a word. Get over it.

Bill is the best. I'm glad he's back. We need Bill to know what's going on. Micheal Moore was right. The media is out of control.
04:23 PM on 09/17/2010
this is such a stupid argument... if all we wanted was equality then we'd do away with all the special programs that give this group or that group some sort of preference

however, equality in today's age really means advancing the agenda of some group or person who stands to gain by convincing people that they are not being treated equally (see glenn beck or al sharpton or bill mayer)

everyone gets the same shot in life.. there are tons of success stories out there of people starting with nothing and making something of themselves

the only exception goes for the alaska natives that have to drive 60 miles on a snowmobile just to get to school, if a school is even that close.. keep in mind that in winter it might be -50... other than that, everyone has the same shot in this big, beautiful land
04:29 PM on 09/17/2010
Everybody does not get the same shot on life. It's true there are true rags-to-riches stories. While those people hit home runs in life, it's rare. But most of us white folks don't realize is we were born on second base, and most of us think we hit a double.
04:35 PM on 09/17/2010
Correct. Alaska Natives do not get the same shot.
04:41 PM on 09/17/2010
That's the problem with not venturing farther than the watering-hole down the street, or your own ego- the failure to realize that people that are different from you also have different life experiences.

It's obviously news to you, but no- not everyone gets the same shot at life. While that probably doesn't sit well with your archaic belief in "the american dream," it happens to be reality for many.

Bill is baaaaaaack!!!! Now we'll have some real discussion. Hey conservatives and Repubs...If you REALLY want to get some points across and get a few laughs at the same time, why not go on Bill's show. His guests come from both liberal and conservative sides of the aisle (granted, mostly libs) but it's a great forum. What's that you say...you have NOTHING to offer????? Too bad.

Featuring Maher in this manner on Huffpost degrades the entire progressive movement. He is one of this most bigoted and hateful speakers in history--certainly matching Glenn Beck, or even exceeding him. He's cartoonish, insulting, opinionated, dark and disturbing, and proves what conservatives like to say about liberals. Give Maher the reins, and he'd line up "diabetic mall-walkers" and machine gun them.

I disown the man, just as conservatives should disown Rush Limbaugh.

Summer of racism....this guy is neither clever nor funny.
Reverse racism is happening all the time: affirm action, double standard on N word, etc
Beck is a tool.
He is right about never pulling out though and about the book-burners

You really want to say the word, don't you? Poor you, being discriminated against.

uh....no, not at all. To deny, however, that there isn't a double standard there is a denial of reality.

"Reverse racism", as opposed to racism the way it is supposed to be, right?

Affirmative action is designed to correct historical wrongs and current wrongs. Is is still necessary. Besides, there are far more unqualified white men sitting in class with you (or on the job site with you) who got their in because of advantages that many persons of color or white women don't have.

There is indeed a double standard on the N word. My opinion is that nobody should use it. But if someone does, it should at least be used by people who are capable of actually suffering the negative treatment associated with the word. Also, if your primary evidence of reverse racism is that white people can't go around in this day and age throwing out the N word without suffering social stigma (unlike the good old days of your), than I think I've proven my point!
11:24 AM on 09/20/2010
Is it necessary? I wonder. There are costs to this policy as well. 1, it makes feel entitled to these advantages. 2, it breeds resentment among the majority, further aggravating relations. 3, I must remind you that these AA programs do PRECISELY what MLK said he didn't want...judgment based on the color of one's skin.
If there are 'far more unqualified white men sitting in class...', which perhaps is the case, might that be because there are far more whites period?

Thank you for at least admitting that this is indeed a real, and ridiculous double-standard. No that isn't the primary evidence at all. Just a symptom. Just like there seems to be less stigma attached to other racial epitaphs like cr*cker, sp*c, than to n*gger. Other examples like, for instance here in chicago, where black leaders are attempting to consolidate around one black candidate for mayor. How bout everyone votes their conscience?! And not as a racial block. How is that equality? Should all asians, all whites, all hispanics vote for only asians, whites, hispanics respectively?! Is that equality?! No, not at all...
Anyway, denying there is reverses racism, like denying there is a double-standard with the n word, is simply a denial of reality. You can pretend it isn't there if you'd like, don't matter really, cause it is there.

I have been waiting months for Bill Maher to return.  FINALLY!!

I've been watching Bill since his "Politically Incorrect" days, and see him as a shining beacon of sardonic wit and spot on analysis.  Do I agree with EVERTHING he says?  No, not really, but I admire him for his intelligence and the ability to deliver information on a myriad of subjects.

I have to laugh, Bill, when you said in November, 2008, "Who do I get to make fun of now that GWB will no longer be President?"

Surprise, SURPRISE!!  Good luck on another season of common sense and intelligence!  You have bushel baskets just chock full of material to choose from!!  ;o)
01:29 PM on 09/17/2010
Bill who?

Oh, the guy who goes onto Larry King's show and throws down an 'N' bomb. But hey! he's a liberal so no big deal.

Imagine anybody...ANYBODY on the right going on to Larry's show and dropping the 'N' word in a reference to the president. You freakin libs would be frothing at the mouth and demanding an apology AND calling whomever said it a racist. But again, it was a liberal who said it so no big deal.

Quite so we'd be asking for an apology because you would be saying it in hatred and loathing. If Maher says it, it is more about brotherhood becasue he does relate to the people he talks with/about. And no, you dont get to be in that brotherhood.. and no, you dont get to use the N word. Once you figure out why that is, you will be halfway cured of your .. errr... never mind.
