New Twitter.com Unveiled: New Twitter Website Offers 'Richer Experience' (PICTURES)

First Posted: 09/14/10 08:30 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:40 PM ET

At a press conference Tuesday, Twitter unveiled a "new Twitter.com" that will enable users to view videos and pictures shared by others alongside tweets, as well as more easily find related content.

Inline media in tweets has been available on third-party Twitter clients, such as Brizzly, for some time. Prior to the introduction of Twitter's new site, however, photos and video in tweets could only be seen by followers if users clicked on a link to view the image or clip.

The new website is changing all that. Twitter made the announcement via a tweet from its CEO Ev Williams (@Ev):

"Today we're launching a new Twitter.com--a faster, easier, and richer way to discover what's new in your world. #NewTwitter"

See a screenshot of the new Twitter below via TheNextWeb (more to come).

Williams said the Twitter team has been testing the new site for some time, and it completely transforms the experience. "It's all about speed, responsiveness and discovery," he said.

It will begin rolling out tonight and it will be released to all soon.

Word that Twitter was testing multimedia on its site leaked ahead of Twitter's official announcement.

What do you think of the new site? Does it make Twitter too cluttered? Are you eager to use it? Weigh in below.

All this nonsense, the Internet is beginning to give me the creeps; technology? my @ss, sooner rather than later will be "privacy don't live here anymore".

Sounds good to me, agree with you Rick, this is a leap forward and will be a reason to come back to the good old Twitter home page.

This could be useful for the increasing use of Twitter in emergencies and disasters, as exemplified by the widespread use in the Boulder wildfire. I love Twitter. And I hate to sound cynical but here goes. Posting directly on Twitter gives you a "no follow". That means it stays there (like Las Vegas). But, if you post on Tweetdeck or any of a few other APIs, etc. it is "follow" and everything leaks onto Google, Yahoo! and other search engines, MUCH needed in any business. Anyone in business HAS to have "follow"; otherwise all information STAYS IN TWITTER. To post directly onto Twitter (unless they change to "follow" from "no follow" is business suicide. We've had these perks on Tweetdeck, etc for quite Ahile but glad Twitter is catching up. And I will gladly post directly onto Twitter if they change from "no follow" to follow". I still love Twitter though, but it is fair to give this information. Thanks!

Between the new Twitter interface, Apple's Ping and Google Instant, discovery is clearly a trend we should all be watching closely.
