Patriots Fan Dies

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Officials say the New England Patriots fan who needed medical attention on the field shortly before the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals later died.

Foxborough Fire Chief Roger Hatfield said the man was taken to Caritas Norwood Hospital on Sunday, where he was pronounced dead of an apparent heart attack.

The man, whose name was not made public, was a 40-year-old Chicopee resident attending the game with his 6-year-old son. They were sitting near the south end zone at Gillette Stadium when he was stricken about half an hour before kickoff.

The Carnival of banality that is the NFL continues. Now, at NFL stadiums, they take the plastic tops off soda and bottled water by NFL policy when sold to you as NFL fans previouly used to throw bottle tops at other fans like a bunch of 8 year olds. lets not mention the magnitude of drunkenness in the parking lots before and after games, replete with de rigeur, frequently over the line hostility to vistiing teams fans....I'll take College football anytime over this Zoo of Sunday Inebriates.

It's even worse if what is being reported is in fact true:

I went to that stadium twice and a young boy. Never again. How incredibly stupid of the stadium staff to treat people this way.

Thx for sharing this. So sad. The best day of the little boy's life turned instantly into the worst.

Saddest part is that his 6-year-old son was with him and likely saw his dad collapse.
Response of the team is critical. Sympathies, prayers and deepest wishes are to be sent. Let's keep it at that. The privacy of the deceased's family needs to be respected.
