The Google doodle shows Poirot -- the only fictional character ever to receive a full-page obituary in the New York Times -- and a cast of characters standing around a body (the search engine's letter "o", in this case wearing a set of pearls), as the Belgian detective undoubtedly explains exactly whodunit to his less perceptive observers.

Most Americans don't even recognize the name. As for me, I consider her books to be my bible. She had such an understanding of human nature! Her autobiography is great reading, too.

I started working at the public library in 1989, and one day, a patron asked when there would be a new Agatha Christie novel coming out! I assure you, she is still very popular with mystery readers worldwide.
