15 Amazing New Designs For The Dollar Bill (PHOTOS)

The American dollar is in bad need of a makeover. Thanks to the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, we may now have some options.

Organized by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project is soliciting ideas for the dollar bill of the future. "Our great 'rival', the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign," the project notes on its website.

Though the most recent competition is now closed, voting ends on September 30. We've compiled some of the best dollar designs below. Which one is the most suitable for our beloved greenback? Check them out -- and check out the Dollar ReDe$ign Project for more information.

Interesting how " Federal Reserve Note" was prominently displayed in a few of those designs.

If you're not familiar with this term, I'd recommend doing a search ---> "fiat currency".

I get the idea that we have to change our bills due to the fact of forgery and I even like some of the designs and I would like to kick the butt of the person that designed some of the others, my favorite is the Native American one but I be damned if they put any Presidents face on the ONE DOLLAR bill except for President Washingtons, also they need to ask no make that let the American public vote on each bills singular design.

Designing a bill and deciding what will be depicted on it are, in part, separate processes. A few designers but Obama's face on their mock ups because he's recognizable and they felt like doing it. That is NOT the same as proposing that Obama's face should appear on US currency anytime soon.

so first off i dont think obama should be on the new one dollar bill soo what if he was the first african american presidant its no like hes done anything worth talking about except not stay true to hi word. George washington was the first president of the united states of america so there fore i belive that he has earnd his permanent right to be marked on our currency

Ignoring the people on them and looking at only the designs, the only ones here i like are 3, 5 , and 9

I can't respect any American dollars that aren't green. Leave that colorful rainbow-bright monopoly money to Canada.

ok...how is this supposed to improve the economy the bills are still the same value just a different design and would'nt it cost more to have to redesign every bill

The redesign of the dollar bill would encourage more people to want to see it, and in order to see the new money, they would have to trade in the old by spending or putting their money into banks. So, you can see how that old phrase works: "you have to spend money to make money." People spend money in stores to get the wicked cool new money as change, the economy gets a boost, people start getting jobs again and those with jobs get raises. Money is good again, so people put a bit more trust in banks. Banks have more dollar-for-dollar backing for loans, so people with new jobs and raises can buy new cars and houses, boosting the economy some more. All because - theoretically - some people bought a pack of gum and a soda at the gas station and paid with a $20 to get the new $10, $5, and $1 as change. Yes, Americans as a whole really are that gullible, but it works.
