The Top 11 Global Brands 2010: Interbrand (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/16/10 12:54 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:40 PM ET

Consumer behavior is more difficult to predict than ever, says Interbrand, a leading brand consultancy firm that just released its annual ranking of the "Best Global Brands."

The current economic climate is "a risky landscape for today's brands," Interbrand writes, "one that is fraught with contradictions and vocal customers scrutinizing your ever move...The same customer might opt to buy an iPad instead of a laptop, purchase private label toothpaste, and then match a Zara skirt with Christian Louboutin shoes."

Despite today's "schizophrenic consumers," some brands managed to rise to the top of Interbrand's widely-viewed list by engendering loyalty and trust from the world's buyers.

Based on what Interbrand believes are the three key aspects that contribute to a brand's value -- "the financial performance of the branded products or services, the role of brand in the purchase decision process and the strength of the brand to continue to secure earnings for the company" -- below are the top 11 brands in the world, according to Interbrand.

Which one is most deserving of the the top spot? Check them out and vote below:

11. Toyota

IBM number two brand!? Was this article written in 1995? I know they make bucketloads of money, but most people would have no idea what they even do anymore.

coke has allways been no#1 everyone trys to copy cat..disney is only no# because of the movies they make its not because of they are so cheap to visit..H.P. is only there because the apples are so expensive but the H.P. will hold up as good as better than the apple provided you run a norton on it and toyota will fall they just dont make as good as they once did..the nissan should have been in the top 10 they do make as good as they come and you cant afford a toyota..i see people are leaning to what will last longer with the least maintenance..and sometimes doesnt mean the "get what you pay for" not allways true no more..the pizza hut is as cheap as mcdonalds now if they only had the internet and playground and served breakfast..

11th "straight year in a row'? Redundant much?

"11th consecutive straight successive win in a row without a loss"?

The line about Nokia being "slow to hop on the smartphone train" is just plain false. Nokia was using the Symbian OS to power smartphones for years before Apple's iOS or Google's Android ever existed. However, Nokia--like Palm--has been slow to adapt and innovate, allowing the newer operating systems to take the lead in the mind of the general public.

The only thing that would ever ruin Coca-Cola would be if they changed the recipe of Coke.
Who doesn't LOVE an ice cold Coke from a fountain-pop machine or a Coke Slurpee from 7-11. I prefer Capt. Morgan with Coke. Mmmmm...

There was a reason Rosalind Russell made Coke a household name and why she made the Corporate Fools tow the line in product quality and marketing.  Solid foundations make for solid long term success.

For the people asking about Apple, they are talking about "Global" Brands. When I was in the Peace Corps and all my travels to developing countries, Coca Cola was universally known. It could be found on every little kiosk in every little town in the world and fake coke was made everywhere as well. With that in mind, I am surprised that McDonald's wasn't #2.

I honestly thought Google would be no.1, but that's probably due to the obscene amount of time I spend on the internet.
