Lady Gaga To Rally In Maine To Pressure Senators Snowe, Collins On 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal'

PORTLAND, Maine — Organizers say Lady Gaga is visiting Maine's largest city to join a rally against the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays.

The singer is expected to join a Servicemembers Legal Defense Network event near the University of Southern Maine's Portland campus Monday. Network spokesman Trevor Thomas says she'll stand alongside veterans discharged because of the policy, which forbids military recruiters from asking about people's sexual orientations and prohibits service members from revealing if they're gay.

The organization is trying to pressure Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine to vote to allow a repeal of the policy. Collins previously voted for a provision to repeal.

Lady Gaga recently called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to repeal the policy during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. Her representatives haven't returned e-mails seeking comment.

Has anyone ever noticed it is all of those who NEVER served who are expressing their opinion about DADT?

I served for 12 years, and to me, it doesn't matter. At least there are some who are willing to seve their country.

But, it does make those Neo-Con Chickenhawks look like itty-bitty sissy's when a gay man is willing to fight & die for his country.

But yet their macho Neo-Con warmonger are just to CHICKENSH*T to have served....LOL!!!!!

I think it is admirable that Lady Gaga has social issues that she cares about. I was a young man in the 60s and the politically involved artists of that era were a part of the momentous changes that reverberate to this day. I applaud her commitment to gay rights, and believe that young people might not be convinced by her stand but they will think about it, discuss it and make up their own minds, rather than blindly accept the divisiveness represented by the status quo. In regards to her appearance in Maine, she has succeeded in shining a spotlight on the pivotal stand that these two senators have taken, and I hope they will reconsider; Maine voters are conservative but the many that I know have a very strong ''live and let live'' attitude.

In case others dont know-there has been a shooting at ft.bliss-military base store-3 victims-i believe whever did those killings may have been trying to upstage lady ga ga-happened same day-close to date of 09-11-this gaga person as I have been saying-is a gay militant instigator who is trying to start a gay/heterosexual war inside the military-that is her goal-dont be fooled she has a siinister motive-another Charlie Manson-people followed him,tooI believe she wants to start a bunch of fights between gays/straights-she keeps depicting images of muscular fishnetted gay men strutting around-she even hunches one in her Alejandro video-she is expoliting gays for her own amusement-thats the irony of this whole thing..dont be fooled she probably cackled and cooed when she heard about the ft.bliss shooting-that was the type of reaction she was hopimg for-she's a blood-thirsty madame pampadour in phyllis diller wigs-and the ft bliss incident should put a blight on her self-centered,callous.wreckless behavior-no "CELEBRITY" should be meddling with national security-none of them-I hope other people are on to this national trublemaker-she is nobody's friend

@Angisongs. I don't know what to make of you. I am not interested in Lady GaGa much at al, but she is a talented singer, her get-up is too distracting for me. One thing, though, I must disagree with. If it were not for CELEBRITIES like her, how many of peeps like you in this country would get out, voice your opinions on behalf of others, and contribute your time and money, Most noteworthy things that get done or those that give a hand in getting work done, is a celebrity.

They really are the DOERS in this country on a variety of levels. WHATEVER HER MOTIVE IS, IS HERS. THE RESULTS hopefully will help those she speaks out for, time will tell. Whatever anybody does on behalf of the exploited (gays) DADT victems, good for them. Look at it this way: THE DEVIL MIGHT HAVE BROUGHT IT BUT GOD SENT IT.

I'm not a follower of Lady Gaga, but I do agree with her position on "Don't ask, don't tell." I don't mind if a celebrity can speak for me. RIght on Lady Gaga! Our president promised to take care of this a long time ago. It's TIME!

For all of y ou who are not fans of Lady Gaga - it doesn't matter what you think. She has over 7 million (yes you read that right) twitter followers. After the VMA awards she tweeted Harry Reid's phone number urged her people to call him. They did. The switchboard was slammed with callers for days afterwards.

This is the kind of thing politicians pay attention to. So who cares about her outfits or whatever you choose to think is outrageous about her. There are lots of young people who love her. And that generation is also the one where the soldiers come from. You know, the ones who are being kicked out of the military for being gay and lesbian. So will she have an impact? You betcha!

I am glad she is doing this. We need to get all those tight-a**ed old white men in the Pentagon and Congress to realize that times have changed and the kids in the military and in the rest of society really have turned the page and are movin' on!

Thank you Lady Gaga for speakiing out on this issue.

Have you been reading this board? IMO the meat dress is bait and she is food for all the beasts out there who want to tear her to shreds no matter what she stands for. If you wear leather shoes, clothes,and eat meat, do you still feel as much disdain for the dead animal flesh you have consumed? At least she’s putting her money and fame where her mouth is. Hopefully something good will come from her lending her voice and fame to this fight for civil rights.
