Michael Bloomberg
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg

New York Times:

In an election year when anger and mistrust have upended races across the country, toppling moderates and elevating white-hot partisans, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is trying to pull politics back to the middle, injecting himself into marquee contests and helping candidates fend off the Tea Party.

“Anger, however, is not a government strategy,†he said. “It’s not a way to govern.â€

They don't have any ideas that weren't ideas during the Bush years.  The candidates have taken advantage of people's anger... said a bunch of token rhetoric like 'freedom' and 'taking our country back'... and run from the media when asked about their actual beliefs in how to govern.  They are all  Read More...

The tea party is also a ploy.
The problem with the tea party is that the more details they provide, the more contradictions occur within their overall message and their actual policies and beliefs. Their policies and beliefs are far, right-wing republican views....Why do these people that hate the powerful and establishment but not support the tax cut for the wealthiest Americans? Why do these people, who supposedly represent the average day american, not want to provide unemployment benefits to the working class americans who are looking for jobs in our troubled economy? Why do they not want Healthcare reform that's universal (that would help the average joe)? And how can they explain their anti-government stand but then support our biggest programs like medicare and defence? These contradictions, to me, reveal one thing. The tea party is primarily a political strategy created by conservative (and establishment) republicans who want the republican party to become even more conservative than what it is. Don't be fooled (although many are) when you hear them talking about how bad both parties. That's just a part of their marketing to get people interested in the tea party or believe them. The reality is that they only want to make the republican party more extreme right. Last question---if they're dissastisfied with the two parties, why arn't they holding firm to running on an Independent ticket---instead of latching on to the very "establishment" that they've chosen to denounce and criticize?
09:35 AM on 09/20/2010
you are wrong. altho i agree with lots of tea party ideas....i will vote as an independent....and will probably not support any incumbent....since we will never have term limits, this is the only way we can throw out career politicians who only care about their reelection.
09:42 AM on 09/20/2010
"I will vote as an independent"---really? So you're not voting for any republicans even though you support "lots of the tea party ideas".
10:27 AM on 09/20/2010
Since there is no "Independent" party, you will be voting Republican. You can be assured all the "Nuts' will be out voting.

Bloomberg is a man of honor and his persona demands the respect that he is due. I admire this man totally and if I were to vote for anybody other than Obama, it would be him.

He is the type of person I hope "real" politicians grow up to be. He "takes care of business" without the rhetoric and big talk that says nothing. You don't hear him belittling others to enhance himself and that is amazing in this age of political drama.

He is absolutely correct about the tea party being a fad because they have to agenda to run a government period. They are more concerned with specific issues and not everything that is required to maintain a government completely. They would totally destroy this country if allowed to take over. That is why it is imperative that we do NOT support their efforts that will cause more havoc and mayhem than we have at present.

Yes, you might not approve of what is going on or how it is being done under the Obama administration, but he's taking on the responsibility to make things right as best he can. Doing something is 100% better than "talking" about doing something. And the baggers don't even have the "talk" that proves they know exactly WHAT to do if they "had" control. All they have are criticisms and complaints. That's all they are good for right now and that's not going to work.

Give us a PLAN tea party!

No matter what you may think about Mayor Bloomberg, this is one tough guy that calls a spade a spade (while the WH & the Dems. are still DEBATING what to call or make out of this fringe group, less than fives weeks before the midterm elections).

Guys, I am going to do EARLY VOTING (for DEMOCRATS) here in Atlanta, GA. Contact your friends, tell them to vote early. WE MUST DEFEAT THE AGENTS OF HATE R BIGOTRY.

“I think these boomlets come along when the public is dissatisfied,†he said.

Can't anybody come out and admit the tea party was created from fear and hatred and willfull ignorance? It materialized as soon as Obama was elected as a result of a bunch of sore losers who believe in democracy when their candidate wins. How many of these people used words like "Liberty" and "We the People" before the end of 2008?

"How many of these people used words like "Liberty" and "We the People" before the end of 2008?"

And how many of them think the Constitution is, in the words of their dear former Fuehrer George Dumbya Bush, "just a g**damned piece of paper"? And how many of them have either put their a**es on the line for this country IN A COMBAT ZONE or have loved ones currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan?

These are the people that have been taught to fear a "takeover" since the Emancipation Proclaimation. The way they have been reeling from "persons we're scared of" from month to month it's apparent who they are. They know full well that the repugs launching attacks against EVERY piece of legislation that supports the American people as opposed to corporate interest is designed to paint the POTUS as a failure, heck they were calling it a "failed Presidency" before he was sworn in. But their overriding fear has been legitimized by fox/saudi news it's apparent in their language. "Takeover" "Take our Country back" "Thug" "we're afraid of" "Socialist" "faschist" etc. They watch the most horrible environmental disaster in history yet scream for LESS regulation and oversight. Sad really, they would rather see our Country fail than have a black POTUS succeed.

Yes, the heart's the key; over there, it's the pocket.

no matter what he's says, he's still a democrat at heart: FOR: amnesty for illegal aliens, has declared NYC a "sanctuary" city....driver's licenses for illegals, doesn't believe in term limits.....etc., etc. Sorry, Michal, you'll never get my vote. you could be another charlie crist, or arlen specter. not good for our country. stay in new york..

Agree with Bloomberg: They are big in anger and short on ideas. BTW, their attention span is extremely short (ie. they hate big government and want to dismantle social security, while getting a paycheck from them) Ha!
05:44 PM on 09/21/2010
They hate big government but want the government to create jobs? Hmm. Another "talking point" that has no basis in reality.

When a supermillionaire Wall St cheerleader NYC mayor is purported by the "newspaper of record"  to define   "the middle" of current American economic politics, no wonder newspapers are dying!

I wish the left would make like the right and clean house.

The tea party is cleaning up the worst of the repubs, we need the left to do the same!

There is still time to save this great nation from the politicans.

I understand cleaning, what I don't understand is appointing people of such vast ignorance, incompetence and bigotry that it is hard to believe they will contribute anything of value. People like palin, o'donnel and the other wako in Nevada. That is not intelligent politics, it is self destructive. If it destruction you are looking for then it is time to see a shrink.
