Bill Clinton: Chelsea 'Is A Fine Person & I Give Her Mother A Lot Of Credit For It' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/21/10 12:14 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:45 PM ET

Former President Bill Clinton talked to George Stephanopoulos about raising his daughter, Chelsea, and how she avoided all of the traps of growing up in the public eye as a politician's (or two politicians') kid. He told George, Chelsea's "a fine person and I give her mother a lot of credit for it," adding, "All I can say is we always thought she was our most important job." Bill also reflected on Chelsea's wedding, saying, "For Hillary and me it was a very special day and one I suppose I'll remember until the day I die."

The Clinton's, stayed married. That is the number one most important aspect in a child's life. Stay together for the children. Kids can take the fights but not the separation of not having both parents at home. Period.

horse-hocky - i did that. my kids were miserable, and to this day have issues with their spouses.
witnessing a bad marriage does not teach lessons, it scars the soul.

BS. When you've got an abusive parent and constant fighting going on, the kids are better off with the abusive parent leaving the household. I know from personal experience.

Good to see that upon presidency, their responsibilities to their children are not ignored. I wonder how often this occurs. You can tell by the way he smiles that he is sincere and it shows in his daughter as well! Good to see.

With all due respect, an example of children taking a back seat to the career of parent(s) might be the children of George and Barbara Bush. It always seemed to me that they were "incidental", particularly after they no longer "needed" a parent in residence. It was nice Barbara could devote herself to her husband and his career, but, it seems in all that mattered, the parenting was distant, as with Reagan. Gerald Ford was not like that, as a parent, even though we learned from Ms Ford how difficult it was for her to basically single parent, she managed and their kids seem to have had a real relationship with their parents and, by extension, with the world outside the parents/family, navigating, etc. Maybe, GW Bush, too.

When the former president talks about his daughter you can see the love radiating from him. They did a terrific job in raising her in such pressure cooker environment.

No matter if you like or dislike the Clintons, no one can say anything bad about Chelsea, she grew into a responsible & admirable young woman. It's too bad the Palins didn't take a page from the Clinton's book, but they really don't think that education or ethics are important to themselves or their kids, cash is king with them!!!

The Palins are not into reading so taking a page from the Clintons would have been of no avail, except leave the Clintons short of a page. What they should have taken from Bill is an intern, but alas, too late.

You know it's easy not to have to worry about your daughter getting pregnant out of wedlock when, oh well, I can't be as mean as some of you.

That's about the most relaxed and sincere look on Clinton's face I've ever seen.
Chelsea is a lucky girl.

I wonder how she felt as a teenager when she had to face the press and her school friends because of the recklessness and low morals of this "wonderful father". Believe it or not, I am a big fan of Bill's but making him into something he was not, is silly.

Being a bad father and being a bad husband are two totally different things. He may have hurt Chelsea with his philandering, but that doesn't take away the fact that he loves her.
