Stephen Colbert Proposes Christine O'Donnell Witch Test (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/21/10 01:07 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:45 PM ET

Last night on "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert continued to defend Republican senate nominee Christine O'Donnell, despite the resurface of "Politically Incorrect" footage where she claims to have "dabbled into witchcraft" before.

Like many of O'Donnell's supporters, Colbert didn't really see the big deal, writing her off as "Bielsa-curious," and suggesting that liberals like Bill Maher stop "unfairly smearing her with words she said."

But Colbert also proposed a solution to end the witch hunt: Come on his show and let him administer a proper "witch test." Unfortunately, this would involve binding O'Donnell's arms and legs and throwing her into a river.

"If she sinks to the bottom of the river and drowns," Colbert said, "her bloated corpse can march to victory with a clean record!"

How about a good Pressin'?
That is -
O'Donnell
Under a board
With giant rocks
A pressin' on her
If she survives, you know she's a witch.

i thought being a witch (i.e. wiccan) was a religion based in love of nature, and connecting with the sacred feminine side of spirituality

other than for comedic effect (of course)

why is colbert implying she was a satan worshipper?

it seems like a not to subtle smear

granted, she's not a practicer of witchcraft now, but if she used to have an interest in a religion that is based in an appreciation of nature, and connecting with it, i dont see what the big deal is

The fact that these Tea Partiers have enough support to get elected to office is terrifying, but god bless 'em for providing this poor, economically (and socially) depressed country with literally endless hours of free entertainment.

I am 100% comfortable with the witch test. Into the river with the witch! TO THE RIVER! TO THE RIVER! TO THE RIVER!

Or is it "restoring Hannity"? They have the same hair. Hey, love Colbert. Watch him daily. Just want to clear that up before the masses descend on me for playfully taking his mane in vain.

Making up stories about dabbling in witchcraft is one of the sad things Christians do when they want to show how bad and evil they once were before Jesus came into their heart. Mike Warnke wrote a book called THE SATAN SELLER that was very popular with the evangelicals in the 80's, and he claimed to have been a satanic high priest who ate human fingers. It was all debunked, he was called out a fraud, and today he's still out there spreading more lies. I read comments from christians about that book on amazon, and they said that it didn't matter that the story was a lie, or that Mike Warnke is a liar, because reading it "led them to Jesus".

"it didn't matter that the story was a lie, or that Mike Warnke is a liar, because reading it "led them to Jesus". "

Well, that makes sense, because Jesus is the Prince of Li... wait, what? Sorry, I'm thinking of that other guy.

The convoluted logic by these religious nutballs is truly frustrating as they can justify anything they think and do. That is the case with all religious fundamentalists whether they are Christians, Jews or Muslims. That is why we all must insist on the SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. No compromising here whatsoever.

Is that true or did you hear it on Fox News?

If she ... weighs the same as a duck ... she's made of wood.

And therefore--?

A witch!

She didn't dabble in witchcraft as a teen, because satanic alters have no place in witchcraft! Either this whole thing didn't happen, and she just wanted to bring attention to herself or she was involved with other silly teens that wanted to do crazy things for fun and called it witchcraft. No matter what happened or didn't, the thought of this nut in some sort of office anywhere is just scary.

Like many of the sheeples, she conflates witchcraft and satanism.

So, looks like she's lost the Wiccan vote in November.

She like others have cleaned her website clear of her wild positions so now she's brand new, born again into wiccan

Only if she floats in the witch test. Then we'll know she's made of wood. Easier to burn.

This whole thing reminds me nothing so much as a Jack Chick tract I read once about Dungeons & Dragons.

Ah, here it is: http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.asp
