Spreading it because of humans - improper use of antibiotics in humans and animal agriculture and from the seagulls picking it up from eating human garbage, as stated in the article.

Testing seagull poop - there's a job that's recession proof.

It always blows my mind when I see people feeding seagulls. Ugh! You wouldn't purposely feed rats, would you?
