10 Gorgeous Modern Mansions (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 09/22/10 09:37 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:50 PM ET

With the housing market still languishing under the weight of foreclosures, a mass of "shadow inventory" and high unemployment, not many of us are lucky enough to be picky about the architectural nuances of our homes.

But for every dull cookie-cutter McMansion, there are homes like these. Courtesy of Trulia, one of the most comprehensive real estate sites on the web, we've compiled 10 stunningly modern homes from various cities across the country. The homes range from a eco-friendly gem in one of Chicago's most sought-after neighborhoods to two pricey homes that aren't bashful about their modern styling.

Which home is your favorite? Check them out and vote below -- and visit Trulia for more information:

Here's my favorite - I don't know anything about it except this note: Marblehead - Edmonds

Some nice designs, though I question the chances that any of us mere mortals could actually afford one.

maybe its the terrible photographs, but these "mansions" don't look very nice at all, and i'm pretty open to different aesthetics

A three bedroom home in Venice is hardly a "mansion"! In fact, I'd say only maybe 3 or 4 of these qualified for that word at all...

These just all seem garish to me. If I could afford to spend that much on a home, I wouldn't. But if I could live in a multi-million dollar home without hating myself every time I passed a fire hazard of a "home" occupied by a destitute family, I certainly wouldn't choose one of these.

My choice? http://www.rammedearthwhistler.com/

Really?

Well, I'd like to say that I'd buy some of these places if I was a multi-millionaire because they are beautiful homes.

But the truth is, I'd probably stay in my same dumpy place, keep my 4-door honda and waste all of my cash on internet porn, Mountain Dew, Cheez-It's and trying to talk Christina Hendricks and Kim Kardashian into sleep with me.

But hey, I wouldn't have to worry about any property taxes...

How about a follow up story, highlighting the most luxuriant cardboard boxes that more and more of America is currently having to call their residence?

So the obama policies are working, making more of us dependent on government. Seems you need to go back to capitalism.

One visual aspect: Pools WITHOUT chain link fences around them ALWAYS look luxurious. Those with fences always look....pedestrian.

These were all restrained by their designers as best they could, but are still too chaotically composed for the most part as their owners "expressed" themselves and their desires.

I like the Seattle example. The rest, eh.

Cheers,

Is Frank Lloyd Wright still alive?

I guess, good think he's not, so he can't see these architectural atrocities.

beauty (or lack of) aside, #4 isnt even "modern". its contemporary at best, or deco at worst. and it definitely is the ugliest one.
less IS more.
