Jose Canseco Pleads For Help

Jose Canseco Evicted

Former baseball slugger Jose Canseco tweeted today that his landlord has evicted him and he needs an attorney.

"I need an attorney pro bono my lanlord evicted me and would not let me take my chandeleers with me, need your help to get them back," he said.

According to TMZ, Canseco was received a note in August telling him to vacate his home in Los Angeles, CA. He had missed two months rent.

That didn't seem to bother him in his debut with the Laredo Broncos on Aug. 16, a small professional team in the United League. Canseco pinch-hit in the sixth inning and hit a home run to left-center field.

Scroll down for Canseco's cry for help, and don't miss his most bizarre Twitter moments.

According to Baseball Reference, dude made $45 million over the course of his career. That's not counting his book or extracurricular stuff.

Highly recommend that site for baseball fans, by the way.

Is he that broke? It's so sad if he truly is considering that he made millions of dollars during his professional career.

Unfortunately, this will likely not end well. I was a close follower of the A's and Canseco in his heyday I can say that at one point he was the highest paid player in baseball. He was arrogant to an extreme and looked down on just about everyone. I never understood why he felt the compulsion to roid up so he could hit the ball 550 ft. when they count the same if you barely hit them over the fence. He had the ability to have been one of the greatest players in baseball history but his arrogance took control of his behavior. The way he ended his career and his subsequent revelations about steriods have made him unhireable by MLB. Sadly (depending on how you view all of this) he has done most of this to himself. As far as getting a normal job I'm not sure what type of normal job he could get given his apparent lack of skills. Obviously, he threw away a ton of money on cars, houses, marriages, etc. He also appears to have few if any true friends. All of this adds up to a rather dismal picture relative to his future. He has fallen a very long way. Not sure what options he has left. Perhaps some humility would help. He is going to have a very, very hard time bridging until he becomes eligible for his MLB pension. I would be surprised if he makes it to that point.

I wonder how much the "lanlord" lost on this lease. The "chandeleers" -- fixtures, which, under California law, will stay with the property, by the way -- probably won't cover it.

This is a guy who has blown a lot of money
"In 2003, Canseco would "rent" a day hanging out with him at his home in Southern Florida. It was said that for $5000 you could spend the entire day with him."  lol you don't do that unless you're in trouble.

Roided up nincompoop. I'll never forget that play where he missed the deep fly ball and it bounced off the top of that melon head of his and over the fence.

Well, Jose, you can start by spelling chandeliers correctly.

Twitter doesn't have spell-check but it should. Based on the evidence thus far, I think 90% of celebs can't spell. Guess most of them didn't finish high school. Actually, neither do most school-kids. We're rearing a generation of ADD, SMS-reliant "Non-Spellers."

I'm sure he gets a pension from major league baseball, and he if he lives simply and frugally like most americans he will be OK. I'm sure he gets a tidy sum. Didn't he have investments, IRAs or CDs or something like that. How can you blow all that money.

I don't believe MLB players get their pensions until age 62.

Canseco is full of it.  When I read his pathetic, sniveling, "plea" for help, I started looking into MLB pensions.  For recent players, the MLB pension system is described as the gold standard of professional sports pensions.  I could not find any specific formulas for pension determination on the MLB Players' Association website.  However, Canseco contemporary and former Mets and Phillies All-Star Lenny Dykstra submitted a court filing which indicated that he receives $5,700 per month, based on his 11 year career.  The amount of benefits is directly tied to the number of years a player spends in the Big Leagues.

Canseco, in contrast spent 17 years in uniform, so one could extrapolate that he receives a check of between $9,000 and $10,000 per month.  To this add, his book royalties, his speaking fees, his appearances at baseball memorabilia shows, and one wonders what he is spending his money on other
than rent and utilities.  Jose has admitted a long love affair with human growth hormone, steroids, and cocaine.  He claims to have given up his old ways.  Maybe he's in Lindsay Lohan land and should think about cutting a check to his landlord rather than poking a sharp into his glutes.

Oh Jose- I can't believe that this is you now. Your picture adorned my walls as a young teenager- you were my favorite player on the A's. Little did I know that my favorite heartthrob was a cheater. Fine- I have gotten over that but you have fallen pretty low since. What happened?? You were a unbelievable hitter and you had it all- the $$ and everything. Sad to see you like this.
