TIME:

In her more than 50-year career in ocean science, [Sylvia] Earle has studied the deep, dived it and written about it. Now she's trying to save the oceans, and she's focusing on one simple idea: protect them. Create true reserves -- marine protected areas (MPAs) -- on the high seas, sanctuaries for everything that swims, just as governments have created parks on land.

The four page article about this wonderful lady contains is a must read as it contains a lot of important info concerning the fragile state of the world's oceans. Creating national parks underwater is a great idea as countries can extend protection to marine species.

Her Deepness (as her friends call her) is 75 years old. I'm hoping she finds an heir so she can keep her dream alive as life is too short.

"There is no other planet. No water anywhere else. We have to save this."
~ Sylvia Earle

Inspiring woman, heartbreaking truth, but we can change and we must. An HP poster suggested "The Gulf of Mexico State Park" which is similar in idea to what Ms. Earle proposes  â˜®

How about the State Park of Earth?

I read somewhere that the excrement of over 2 billion humans feeds into the oceans without being cleaned up first, and that in the developed world many of the prescription drugs we take end up in the oceans. With all of the other things we are doing to damage the biosphere, these seem like two particularly bad ideas.

I love that, mamacat ~ The State Park of Earth ~ Beautiful.

Yes indeed. What we have done to this Earth.... I can't bear to think of it. I do everything I can  to help the Earth and animals in my life but this must become our government's #1 issue. The poor Earth. The poor Oceans. Lord. How can we not see what we are doing? How can we not help and change our ways? Pray that we all "wake up" before it's too late ☮ ☮ ☮

"Mankind has probably done more damage to the Earth in the 20th century than in all of previous human history."
