Who would have thought that a one time stimulus that temporarily paid for jobs would ever end...

Keep printing money?

Stimulus money doesn't create jobs - only innovation does. Jobs come from real "demand" for a product or service or new efficiencies. Printing money to make loans just delays our economic decline.

Here's an example: 2020b This group of entrepreneurs in San Francisco has solved 3 big problems: urban living, new schools and clean, renewable energy - enough to cut Green House Gas emissions in HALF within 10 years. All three are very valuable solution and therefore do not need government funding.

America should be thinking like they are - Innovate to renew and create jobs.

Will someone please explain to me how cutting taxes will stimulate the economy more than a direct stimulus program?

You can cut the taxes on businesses to zero - zip - naughta; do you SERIOUSLY expect businesses to do any hiring, regardless of their tax rate, if no customers are walking through the door?

At the same time, if there are customers beating down the door, and lines at the checkout counters, do you seriously thing they won't do any hiring? Even if taxes were raised on them, do you think they they'll be turning away customers because the tax rate was restructured?

Let's peer back into history:

"The top marginal tax rate at the time of the 1929 crash was 24 percent. After his election, Roosevelt promptly raised it to 63 percent and then to 94 percent, and one could easily make the case that it was this rise, rather than financial regulation, that played the primary — though certainly not the only — role in curbing abuses by attacking greed at its source, without, by the way, damaging the economy."

Very simple: Cutting taxis spares wealthy people from paying the crisis, and by the other hand, stimulus can put them out of business...! In a extreme scenario, wealthy people can become less wealthy and poor people less poor, and that it's unconstitutional.

I never heard of Neal Gabler or the Woodwill Wilson think tank for that matter,  but this is a soundly reasoned and scholarly article of what Reagan started that some prudent leader must and will stop, I expect. Powerful, constructive knowledge.  Fanned.

This is just what the other side has been wishing and hoping for! They want our country to be in the worst shape possible so they can gloat and blame the Dems for all of the problems we face right now. If they looked in the mirror, and actually saw a reflection, they would see who the real culprits are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stimulus can't permanently replace the manufacturing sector. We need to end our trade deals with China and impose tariffs on imported goods. Bring back Made in the USA and we've got all the jobs we need.

When a medical patient goes into cardiac arrest, you give him 'stimulus' with drugs and electrical shock. But, you can't do that indefinitely. People that want US manufcturing, are going to have to do something about it, take advantage of the opportunity, and make it happen. Eventually, the stimulus stuff will have to end.

BTW for those of you who didn't bother to read the story, even Republican Governor Haley Barbour favors extending this part of the stimulus.

What wild spending? Spending on America is better than what the last 3 republican administrations did with their massives spending.

Were you vocalizing your opposition to the wild spending in the Bush II years when they gave billions to contractors in Iraq for doing nothing.

Ofcourse he supports it, it created 5,300 jobs in his state! But what about the rest of the country? Why did this program only run in 37 states? Why wern't any jobs created in say... Michigan?

Illinois gets 31,293 jobs, but Michigan gets zero? Sure we only have the second highest unemployment rate in the nation, why would Obama create jobs here? Nevada is first in the nation, how many jobs did they get from this program? Zero!

Well, where were the jobs created? Hawaii gets 7,340 jobs (didn't Obama live there?) I know living in a hellhole like Hawaii can be rough on some people. Arizona (McCain) gets zero. Alaska (Palin) gets zero. Delaware (Biden) only got 934 jobs, but his birth state of Pennsylvania gets over 20,000 jobs!

This program isn't helping the people who need the help the most, it's helping the friends of Obama and his corrupt Chicago cronies and it's doing so at the expense of the other states.

Hey, I'm all for expanding it so more folks in places like Michigan get the help they need too.

Like the "hostage crisis" in Lebanon years ago, the GOP and big business have us by the grapes and they don't show any signs of loosening up.

Big business wouldn't own you if it weren't for the interventionist government that the liberals created. You made the monster that dispenses money and redistributes wealth, now deal with it.
08:00 PM on 09/26/2010
Sure lets let the goodwill of the GOP and big business led us to the promised land..That old story is broken.

Let's freeze Congresses wages/pay checks and stop paying for all that waste, when they can not even work a 40 hour week and they get way more vacation time then they should.
There you go GOP - an excellent CUT in spending and waste. :-)

No more pay for Congress until America get's back on her feet.

So now I'd like to see the naysayers ring up these people who are about to be jobless and explain to them why the stimulus didn't work.

I'll tell them because it takes money, under the threat of force, from my pocket and gives it to them. I'm sorry they are out of work but that doesn't entitle them to my money and it doesn't mean that get to live forever at my expense. if this program is extended what are we going to do at the end of that extension?

indeed RWM. Nothing motivates a person to become productive better than hunger. This simply cannot continue forever, and sucks money out of the economy which might otherwise be used more productively.

All those people that lose their jobs should know which party to vote for
in November.

Democrats need to get mad about the ditch that GW and boys ran the economy
into. Remember that we were losing 750,000 jobs a month when GW was in office.
They ran the economy into a ditch and threw the keys to the next guy and
said "I hope you fail". What a bunch of losers. And they call themselves patriots.

Our President is fighting to save the middle class.

The party of NO is fighting to save their campaign contributions.
