Jerry Springer: I'd Be #1 With Oprah's Time Slot

New York Post:

'Put us on at 4 o'clock on every ABC station in the country and we'd be No. 1, too."

Jerry Springer is talking about Oprah Winfrey, the Babe Ruth of talk TV, and he doesn't mean to sound jealous.

"Listen, you can't even put me in the same sentence as Oprah," says Springer. "She is the best."

Assuming Jerry is correct, and he IS highly intelligent, then why doesn't he have a better time slot?
The answer is advertisers actually do care about what shows they appear in.
Springer is at the top of shows banned by advertisers.
You mostly find rip off school ads on Jerry.
Stations use the show as a ratings draw.
They hope the people that tune in Jerry hang around for other shows or at least see the stations promos for other shows.

Jerry, you will always be popular with the people who want to either be low lifes and/or the sad and pathetic or laugh at them, pretending to be better. 

When you did Air America, it was a decent show, I thought you said that you were making up for the crime to humanity that is your show.  Or maybe I just thought you should.  You were nice on DWTS.  

Then I saw an ad for your videos, you know, the ones where people are humiliating themselves while others cheer and laugh?  I thought you must be mortified.  Then I see that you are still doing the show.  

If it were legal to have gladiator matches or people eaten by animals, Jerry, you would do that, because your show is just a modern day version 

No, Jerry, you have all the fans you are going to get.  A few decent people with a guilty pleasure and a bunch of low lifes  or people who don't know any better. 

And you are no Oprah.

Springer is a very intelligent individual with a colorful past. If Jerry hosted an Oprah-style show, rather than the all out trailer park circus he hosts now, he'd absolutely be #1 in the 4:00 time slot. But then again, he'd be up against what? A couple of gameshows and Matlock reruns?
