Pronghorn Challenges Two Coyotes Threatening Her Fawn On 'Expedition Wild' With Casey Anderson (VIDEO)

First Posted: 09/27/10 10:26 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:50 PM ET

Casey Anderson takes a trip to Yellowstone to check out the bustling new life of baby animals in this clip from "Expedition Wild."

Watch as a baby bighorn sheep learns how to maneuver the rocky terrain as one of its potential predators, the golden eagle, hatches fresh from the egg.

Anderson also stumbles upon a pronghorn fawn lying immobile to camouflage itself while its mother is away. Suddenly, two coyotes begin sniffing out the young as easy prey. But fortunately, mother comes running to the rescue, and you might be surprised at the outcome when North America's fastest mammal takes on the two wild canine.

"Expedition Wild" premieres Monday, September 27th at 9PM ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild.

I was traveling with my dad through New Mexico and I looked out the car window just in time to see this big coyote along the side of the road. It was so majestic, and posed! That was twenty years ago and I can still see him in my mind. I didn't know if it was a wolf or coyote, but after seeing these guys I think it was a coyote...a big coyote!

When we lived in the San Fernando Valley, we would see coyotes walking down the railroad tracks, in the middle of over a million people. Besides eating rabbits and such, they also eat dogs and cats, and they would sometimes attack children, so I am not a big fan of having them live in the city.

Neither am I, but what got me was how powerful this animal looked, it was only a 2 second visual as we motored past but it was so iconic that I remember it to this day. P.S. I'm also a big fan of wolves but that doesn't mean I would have one as a pet or that they aren't a threat to cattle.

Very Cool! This past summer in WY, we were riding out in the badlands and saw a pronghorn mama dancing around us like this. Didn't know she was 'charging' at us! or why, She must have had a baby close by.

Pronghorns are so fascinating. They are odd ball animals like the opossum. They have no other relatives. They are not true antelopes. They are not close relatives of true antelope or deer. They are very unique in that they are almost like left overs from another mammal age. I saw so many in Wyoming I fell in love with them.

FYI bald eagles mate for life. What good mothers these two antelopes are, and what cute babies they have.

"It was fascinating to see people who had never been to Yellowstone, see the landscape that lived in their oral traditions. It was very much a reunion with their past."
