Tiny Hats War: Did 'SNL' Steal Their Sketch From Tim & Eric? (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post

The Internet blew up yesterday morning with accusations that "Saturday Night Live" stole the idea for one of their season premiere sketches from comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. The sketch in question, "Ladies Who Lunch," featured a running "tiny hats" gag that is shockingly similar to a 2007 parody ad on Adult Swim's "Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!"

The Comic's Comic and SplitSider have both reported on the feud, which became public on the Internet Sunday morning after tweeters alerted Heidecker of their observation. Now, the hashtag #tinyhatswar has prompted a slew of comments from the Twitter community about whether or not Tim & Eric's idea was stolen on purpose or merely imitated by accident.

Heidecker is trying to rally the Internet to force "SNL" to apologize for the "theft," but was it really a theft? Check out both "tiny hats" sketches below and tell us what you think in the poll at the bottom of the page!

What's interesting is that Tim & Eric are unfunny on purpose, while SNL is unfunny due to writers who don't know funny.

This was another SNL skit that needed better editing and that went on for too long. We got it after the first few seconds and that was enough.

Who cares? Tim & Eric suck. SNL made the sketch more interesting by far.

THEFT pure and simple. The concept is too original to have been "coincidentally" dreamt up by SNL, long after T&E aired their sketch. Doesn't surprise me, the writers on SNL today suck as bad as the players.

I really meant "Tim." Wish you could edit these things once they're up.

Bob Odenkirk is a producer for Tim and Eric. So I'm sure a lot of the skits are Bob's ideas. Plus Bob and David guest star occasionally.

Option #4: Who cares...tiny hats is not funny...

Good heavens, this is totally unbelievable.

There is no way that four women with such a heightened sense of fashion that they are able to appreciate the brilliance of small hats would ever be seen in the same outfits four weeks in a row at the same place with the same people. It just isn't done.

Maybe they were just mocking the clothes worn by gothic-lolita cosplay girls?

Nah, much too subtle for SNL.
