The best food neighborhood in New York, or possibly the world, can be found in midtown, home of the city's most exalted restaurants, cheek-by-jowl to one another. From cheap noodles to one of the fanciest French eateries in town, we've got your next midtown meal covered.

Casa Lever
390 Park Avenue
New York, NY 10022

It was a standard-bearer for American cookery under Dan Silverman, and it's not missing a beat now under Brad Thompson. The ultra-swanky power room has a surprisingly welcoming touch with the menu, which continues to be earthy and unpretentious. Citysearch

Went to the 21 Club for work once and we saw Regis Philbin!! Other than that the place was super stuffy and weird with the jockeys on the outside and the strict no jeans policy. However, my steak was really good so no complaints- it was restuarant week...

Rule #1. Never go above Union Square.
Tourists, business accounts and the dull and boring old folks hang in mid town.

Hey hey hey! I lived outside of Grand Central because it was reasonably priced. True there isn't much there but you'll find great restaurants in and around Chelsea, Flatiron and some decent ones around Midtown. The crowd isn't spectacular but neither is the crowd around Union Square (NYU students, struggling grads, tourists, i bankers).

The editors at H..P need to get out of Manhattan and visit the other 4 boroughs in the City. That's where the real people, places and things are.

While you may be right, most people (including tourist and business folks - who are the ones that REALLY spend the money) aren't going to schlep to Queens.

Anyone who loves authentic Asian or Hispanic cuisine who doesn't come to Queens is a fool. Flushing, Jackson Heights, the food is great and the price is reasonable and the people are friendlier.

This list is so awful. New York needs about a million less people anyway. Kickback Korman needs to get out of town. We don't need is someone promoting such over-priced hype. Hype. Shake Shack is HYPE. It is over-priced, crowded, tasteless, and unhealthy. Get a clue. Shake Shack...Are you kidding me? Awful.

I overheard a conversation today at lunch about Shake Shack - apparently, burgers are $12.00 - that's BEFORE fries. Can you believe that? People are stupid.

What do you expect. It’s mid-town? Expect the expected.

Was there last night...that is NOT the truth for a burger. A triple burger, yes, not a regular (or double).

Kashkaval Cheese Market is awesome.

Most of these places are super-expensive. You don't need to spend a ton of money to find good food in New York City.
