Happy Birthday, Hoover Dam! (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 09/30/10 01:26 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:55 PM ET

Today marks the 75th birthday of the Hoover Dam. The Dam, which lies above the Colorado River, was dedicated by Franklin Roosevelt on September 30, 1935.

According to USA Today, the Dam was originally named after Herbert Hoover, then named Boulder Dam by Roosevelt, and later returned to its original name.

The dam, about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, still draws roughly 1 million visitors for a tour of the structure per year (many, many more drive across it each year).

In celebration, visitors will be admitted with discounted tickets ($7.50 as opposed to the usual $11) for a power plant tour through Sunday.

If you have never been through it, it is a truly impressive tour. Amazing what we can achieve when we put our minds and bodies to it.
