Cebu Airlines Performs Safety Demo To Lady Gaga & Katy Perry (VIDEO, POLL)

First Posted: 10/01/10 09:25 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:55 PM ET

Well, this is one way to get passengers' attention. On a recent Cebu Pacific Airline flight, flight attendants decided that it would be good idea to give a safety demonstration set to Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" and Katy Perry's "California Gurls," according to the Telegraph.

The airline said in a statement to the Telegraph: "Cebu Pacific has always been known as a fun airline, we wanted to get the message across to our customers that flight safety doesn't have to be boring. This was an experiment that we hope to repeat and also a chance to showcase the talent of some of our cabin crew staff."

Apparently, the crew performed the generic safety demonstration while on the ground and danced to Gaga and Katy Perry while airborne.

Cebu is a low-cost Philippine airline that focuses on being the "fun airline." According to their website, they are "not just the leader in low fares but also in innovation and creativity!"

Apparently so.

I don't see what the big deal is, at least they seemed to be enjoying it.... more so than the Jet Blue flight attendant that jumped out the emergency exit. Also, it says they did the "traditional" safety info before take off. This was probably done so that it would end up on a site like you tube and create a viral buzz around the airline. I would say it was succesful.

I like it! People should be able to have fun on the job! I'm sure the passengers listened to that safety talk for the first time ever.

I'm impressed that they are small enough to fit in the aisle, much less dance in it!

Oh, and btw .. on an American or JetBlue flight, they would have stopped and given the person recording complete hell.

taking over philippine airlines as the philippines' official carrier then, cebu pacific?

cebu pacific flight attendants are havin fun on air and worldwide exposure, huh!

anyway, philippine airlines flight attendants were recently "on strike" and battling their rights vs. their employer.

"happy" vs. "sad"

No one listens to these boring safety demonstrations anyway so they may as well keep the audience entertained to get passengers to listen!

I know that a lot of airlines are struggling to keep afloat to compete in this economy but I really think there are a lot of ways of doing that instead of making your employees look like fools or glorified conductors, dancers or singers or frustrated game show hosts…Also, should this kind of policy be implemented, will this be a precedent in starting a type of hiring discrimination for women or men who wants to be a Flight attendant for Cebu Pacific? I mean they would probably now ask the applicants – do you also know how to dance, sing, perform magic tricks, or even do ballet? As long as you have the talent, we will hire you!!! The CEO of Cebu Pacific should not have agreed with this preposterous idea and I felt that they only considered the pros than the risks involved with this “experimental show.†It might not be the cabin crew’s fault but whether they like it or not they do appear sexually provocative to men and women. I really do hope CEBU PACIFIC change this idiotic regulation of theirs soon – for the sake of the passengers flying and the safety of their poor employees.

This idea of Cebu Pacific is just a shame…It makes the flight attendants appear cheap and degrading…They look like dancers in a tv variety show. One friend of mine in FB, thought that they look like bar dancers but at least bar dancers get tips…I don’t think that the music played here and the dancing is appropriate for imparting important emergency information…FAA should look into this….Man, what were they thinking????? This is so embarassing!!!!

Shiela, how often do YOU attentively listen to the "Emergency Information" briefing? And I will go out on a limb and assume you know how to fasten a seatbelt. This isn't FAA jurisdiction (since it's the Philippines), but perhaps the FAA should consider reviewing the nonsensical emergency/safety briefing as well.

It looks like the airline people are having a little fun with a demonstration that no one pays any attention to. Very cute.
