Katie Holmes, Eva Mendes & Anne Hathaway Try Luncheon Style (PHOTOS, POLL)

Hollywood tried its hardest to hit midday event style on the head at Variety's 2nd Annual Power Of Women Luncheon on Thursday. It seems like solids and neutrals are the way to go for a noon engagement, with Jennifer Garner, Brooke Burke and Maria Menounos keeping it simple. But Katie Holmes, Anne Hathaway and Eva Mendes mixed things up with casual prints.

Eva Mendes looks like she got lost in a shower curtain shop. She made the top 3? How in the world can anyone think that dress looked fab? Overall, most of these dresses looked too Macy's for a Hollywood event. I'm not saying they should be in full evening gowns, but pick something at least a little trendy.

One-shoulder and strapless dresses for a luncheon? Where do these women get fashion advice? Nothing says "power lunch" like a strapless dress! They looked like cheap hookers~

Anne Hathaway looks beautiful and elegant, as always.

Amy Adams and Brooke Burke also look lovely, as does Maria Menounos, who always looks great but whose T-strap shoes I didn't care for with that dress. A simple one-tone or one-print sheath is always nice, especially when photographers are present.

Some of the others look either too casual or too over-embellished. I'm afraid the dresses of Katie Holmes and Ricki Lake are floral disasters. Jennifer Garner looks like one of my sixth grade teachers from the 70s in her skirt and blouse. I think she makes a mistake when she pulls her hair back behind those ears. It exaggerates both the ears and the unusual structure of her head.

Anne has the face of a woman, not a girl. She would be a good choice to play Jackie Kennedy. She looks great, as always. Amy Adams looks just like Kelly Preston, and you are right on about the shoes on Menounos. Katie Holme's hair and make up are perfect, she has turned into a beautiful woman and I actually like the dress. She always has terrible posture, legs too wide stance or hunched over. Agree on Ricki and Jennifer. Her face has really changed. Sometimes after children you do, she's lost all facial fat, looks very gaunt.

I never considered the comparison of Amy Adams and Kelly Preston. I'll have to look at several pictures and see if I can pick up on that. I think Amy has much more open, expressive eyes, I suppose, but they do have a similar sort of femininity and overall facial resemblance.

Katie IS beautiful. Luminously so. I gather she feels self-conscious about her height. I suppose being married to a short man does that to a tall girl. I sympathize. I've always felt self-conscious about being 5' 10", but luckily my husband is five inches taller. I got in the habit of slumping in high school when the boys hadn't yet caught up, and it was something I didn't shake until I was in my late 20s.

Love Anne Hathaway. Katie Holmes dress looks like a house dress my grandmother wore in the seventies which she severely shortened. Jennifer Garner's outfit was just too drab. Ricki Lake the print dress does not flatter you. I love what AnnaLynne McCord has to wear it's original. Other than that there are a few too many form fitting and strapless dresses. They are getting old.

Eva Mendes looked perfect for LA -- cool dress and we've had record heat in So California. She was the only one who didn't look like she was trying so hard.
