Republican Agenda

Bloomberg:

U.S. House Republicans' pledge to cut $100 billion from the federal budget next year would slash spending for education, cancer research and aid to local police and firefighters.

Keeping the midterm-campaign promise would require a Republican-led Congress to cut 21 percent of the $477 billion lawmakers have earmarked for domestic discretionary spending.

Humanity is destroying itself
There are only two options: co-operation or self destruction
If we hadn’t become so technologically advanced, we would have more time to figure out how to co-operate.
Never before in the history of the earth has so much ability to destroy been held in the hands of so few men.
An accident could exterminate the whole planet.

"Take a position that benefits your constituents more than yourself. Govern like you have no fear of losing your job. Consider people and communities who can't pay for your ads, but can benefit from your leadership, then talk to us about heroism and courage. Only then will you have some experience of what they are."

only poor folks send their kids to public schools, can't afford Sloan Kettering and need police protection. The rest of us have our private security and fire control and wouldn't DREAM of sending our kids to public schools and goodness knows we can afford the best medical care

I have said this before. The neoconservative republican plan is very simple.
To starve the federal government of funding!
This would prove their twisted theory that only the private sector can manage education and public safety in America.

The neoconservative GOP mission is then to privatize as many govt services as possible including police, fire and medical response teams, gut the public schools system by scrapping the Dept of Education.
Wall Street member corporations would then own and manage America's education system.

All other social services agencies in their view would be run by faith based organizations.

I believe, the other neoconservative mission is to destroy all public service unions, which would in turn gut collective bargaining agreements, and return all public service workers to subsistence level.
That is their dream and that is my nightmare.

Remember the neoconservatives despise all public service workers except when they experience a car wreck or their house is on fire.

Do you agree with liberal journalist Michael Wolf that "some mass misperception put Barack Obama in the White House and now nobody knows what to do with him"?

If the republicans do take power, nothing will get done over presidential vetos and Americans will rise up again in 2012 and slap them down again like in 2008. Let's face it their plans are designed to manipulate the country so they can justify squeezing the people again and justify giving billionaires tax breaks. The lack of empathy for those damaged the most by the recession is disgraceful.

The Founders were Classical Liberals. not moderne Welfare Liberals.

Classical liberalism was a political ideology that developed in the nineteenth century in Western Europe, and the Americas. It was committed to the ideal of limited government and liberty of individuals including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and free markets.

It drew on the economics of Adam Smith, a psychological understanding of individual liberty, natural law and utilitarianism, and a belief in progress. Classical liberals established political parties that were called "Liberal", although in the United States classical liberalism came to dominate both existing major political parties.

The phrase classical liberalism is also sometimes used to refer to all forms of liberalism before the twentieth century. And some conservatives and libertarians use the term classical liberalism to describe their belief in the primacy of economic freedom and minimal government.

Guess what Smity - the world very well may end if we allow the sinister NEOCON'S to run things again. Their next war of choice could very well become the war to end all wars (and all life on this planet - including republican cockroaches)

This is a well worn teabaglican tactic. Here in Mi., every year they have a plan to balance the budget with out raising taxes, in fact they will cut taxes. Then they hit the news waves touting this "budget." The only problem is the thing is a secret. They will not say "how" they will do this, they just say they will.
There are some posters here with the courage to say cut every thing. Let those without fend for themselves. One of them calls this a game. In this "game" the penalties for being born poor or being of modest means will be exacerbated. In this fantasy game all the poor, starving, helpless, and hopeless masses will just fade away leaving just enough serfs to serve the masters.
Oh police and fire protection will be cut too. Hmmm. How will this work out?
Let's see;
Millions of hopeless, starving people -police and federal law enforcement - fire and first responders +millions of guns of every kind + million and millions of rounds for those guns = ?
Go ahead tealady,wdw505 tell us how this game ends.

You are SO fanned. Outstanding comment.

I like to think that these small government libertarians are well-intentioned but just sickeningly naive, because the alternative is that this country is full of selfish, cruel ideologues, and I refuse to accept that. Their brutal Darwinian ideology is based on the incoherent rantings of a third-grade science fiction writer that most of us grew out of in our teens, and they are so terrified of modernity that they seek solace in a romanticized notion of rugged frontier individualism that they learned about in the movies.

They are so disdainful of modern civilization that they see other human beings as mere animals, and imagine that nature will sort out the strong from the weak. Which is fine if one is prepared to abandon the notion of homo sapiens as a higher functioning species. Perhaps they think that without laws, without government, without regulation, without education, without safety nets, and without any social or legal constraints on our behavior, we'll all be really nice to one another.

That is until the nuclear power station in their state melts down because there is no DoE to enforce safety standards, no FEMA to evacuate the population, no police or firefighters to deal with the aftermath, no Department of Health to administer emergency assistance, and no EPA to deal with the cleanup.

This is a long running theme for them. So many simple, what does their spokes person say "common sense solutions." They do sound simple.
We think about the consequences of these "simple common sense solutions." They think do this and all will be better. We think how will we do that? What will it look like? What happens to the people?
I have faith that as a people Americans have more compassion for ourselves and each other than these teabaglicans give us credit for. This pledge and the fantasies about taking over the government are just that fantasies. They will work as well as "tax cuts increase revenue and decrease the deficit, wars pay for themselves" and of course that Americans are willing to elevate themselves by standing on the bodies of the poor and children.

PS At the risk of sounding presumptuous, Get some rest shag

Rethugs never cut any taxes for me. I never made it into that tax level, thats something for millionaires to enjoy. Rethugs and republibaggers have cut many services, or charged more for a scaled back version of them. This is their same old same old chant. I am not that stupid. They are gonna keep taxes the same for most people (those who make less than a million a year), cut taxes for businesses who destroy our environment and move our jobs to China, and make me pay more for even fewer services. People need to see this and wake to their lies and propaganda!
