Beth Ditto Hits The Runway For Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer 2011 (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 10/03/2010 8:32 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 5:55 pm

Jean Paul Gaultier showed his Joan Jett-inspired Spring/Summer 2011 collection in Paris on Saturday and outspoken songstress Beth Ditto took to the runway for the designer.

Ditto recently told reporter Fearne Cotton the she's not unhealthy and she's tired of proving herself all of the time. Ditto remarked to Cotton, "It's really interesting to me that people will look at a thin person and go, 'That's a healthy person'. I want to go, 'Come open my refrigerator and look and then let's talk about what you think is so bad'. To be thin and to stay really thin, sometimes...some people literally do coke all the time. Some people smoke cigarettes instead of eating. That's crazy. But that's 'okay' because you look healthier."

Check out images of Ditto on the runway and Gaultier's newest duds:

Wow, they're making some dumb-looking shoes nowadays. Like the 70s with goldfish in the plexiglass platforms, without the wit.

I dig Ditto.

I really like her, and I praise Jean-Paul Gaultier for his showing the fashion industry that designing for large, very confident women can be as interesting and challenging than doing so in the simple idea of using as little fabric as possible. All bodies can be interesting and deserve to be well treated, adorned with nice clothes, and loved. Not everybody is equal on behalf of ''what you eat is what you are''. The «calories in, calories out» is being busted by all new research on obesity... So please, leave your judgemental self out of this glorious moment for every woman. It's a victory, we should celebrate it :) Yay for Gaultier and Ditto.

except for that i think the clothes look ridiculous and unwearable, i applaud the diversity of the bodies of the models-
05:31 PM on 10/04/2010
Yes, using diverse models would have worked out better if the clothes actually flattered the different body types. Also, I know she's a performer and is probably going for a dramatic look, but in my humble opinion (which is worth exactly what you paid for it) Ms. Ditto would look better with different make-up and hair. The baby bangs and clown make-up don't do anyone any favors. But. . .I'm not the target audience.

Signed,

I have always liked Gauthier because he seemed like a great, forward-thinking guy whose clothing was actually quite accessible..now he's the only one following up on a committment to cover all the bases, not just anorexic styling, but stuff that will work for anyone with any body..loved these pictures..especially Deneuve looking..what? ..confused?

such nasty comments about skinny models...come on now, it isn't their fault that they are (or have the ability and genetics to become) skinny.
09:42 PM on 10/04/2010
But it is a fat person's fault if they have the genetics to become fat??
05:31 PM on 10/05/2010
I don't think that's what the poster is saying either. And for all we know it was snark. But as a skinny person I get fed up with stupid comments from people who are uncomfortable with themselves. Perhaps ironically, that's how my best friend (who is heavy) and I bonded - we both complained about the way we were treated based on superficial assumptions.

FINALLY. A woman who isn't a stick, but says "Hey, my diet isn't only twinkies." Some people don't realize some of it's genetics.

Gaultier...LUV IT! LUV Ditto.

All the models have their own degree of fabulousness. (None of the non-plus sized models seem anorexic.)

Seems like it was a fun show--love the clothes!

And that Joan Jett is such an innocent, nice little thing. I love Rock and Roll!

It is refreshing to see a woman who is not heroin chic walking down the aisle. The average American woman is a size 14, 5'4 and weighs 140 lbs. While Beth is a little heavier than that, she may well be representative of more women than those thin little sticks. As to the fashions - heck, I got into the wrong business! I'm going to start saving gunny sacks and scrap cloths and just stitch them together and sell them for big bucks! That's what these misguided 'designers' seem to be doing.

I think an American woman that is 5 foot four and 140 would be about an 8 or 10 not a size 14.
