Presidential Seal Falls During Obama Speech At Fortune Magazine 'Most Powerful Women Summit' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/06/10 12:07 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:55 PM ET

Men aren't usually invited to speak at Fortune Magazine's Most Powerful Women Summits, but Time Inc. CEO Ann Moore said that President Barack Obama had "earned this podium" on Tuesday, considering his Cabinet and Supreme Court appointments.

Minutes later, things were falling apart at that podium.

While speaking to hundreds of guests, the Presidential Seal came crashing down in front of Obama. According to White House pool reporter Chuck Lewis, he was able to laugh it off:

Mid-way through his remarks, the presidential seal came undone from the front of the rostrum and fell to the floor of the stage with a clunk loudly amplified by the president's microphone.

Obama stopped his prepared remarks, peered over the front of the rostrum, laughed and said, "That's OK, I think everyone here knows who I am."

Audience laughter.

He continued: "Someone here is really nervous. They're sweating bullets."

The teleprompter appears to have escaped unscathed.

"The teleprompter appears to have escaped unscathed."

This teleprompter obsession from the meida is odd considering every president going back to even Reagan used them regularly.

Wonder why the fixation suddenly? Wonder what about Obama is different from all those other Presidents...

...and why don't they notice how he goes off the teleprompter at all his town halls that he's been  Read More...

U should have heard Hannity idocy on Fox last night! Do ya think it was a sign, ya know a sign of whats to come? My God, it stupidity of Fox news/Hannity never fails to give u a belly laugh an a chance for them to show how dumb they really are. They ought to look at themself on camera after a show like that once in a while, mybe it would embarrass them enough that stop fantaseizeing/lieing/an makeing up stories to make themself/GOP/T.P candidates look better. The awful part was they had Sarah Palin on an I can tell ya right now that she must have done her own hair. Gone was the Sassy hair cut, an a pile of rat's nest was in it's place. I wouldn't have been seen in public that way.

No. He's not. The greatest would have ALL our troops of two illegal, pointless wars, and would have put single payer up for a vote. Obama is a Lieberman, except with slightly more charisma.

This is what we've stooped to? The emblem falling off the podium makes national news? This country is more biased than I thought. Now, even the media is in on the game. Next we'll see, splattered all over the internet from conservative bloggers, "President Obama wears one blue sock and one navy sock." Film at 11. I blame the Republicans for abusing their free speech right. They've altered the atmosphere in this nation with their vitriol. This is why I'm not a conservative.

For those on the right this is about the seal falling off of the podium (a non-story for sure) and if that's what they want to focus on I say let so-be-it. But to me it made me notice the classy way the President handles an unexpected problem. It showed his instinct and character.

I'm glad the teleprompter was okay!

When Obama goes off the teleprompter, he tends to say things like "I've been to all fifty-seven states... with one left to go." He even messed up his Oath-of-Office!

How much do you want to bet that Obama uses "the Google"? I wouldn't "misunderestimate" him if I were you.

Thanks for sharing that deep and meaningful commentary.

You must be a kool-aid drinker. You can't even recognize the truth when you see it!

If it isn't a prepared speech, Obama is even worse than Bush! Do you understand now?

Watch the full video of the speech President Obama gave at the the 2010 Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit. The media doesn't want you to see him being an inspiration to anybody. The only take away we got was the presidential seal incident.
12:47 AM on 10/07/2010
Oh no! Was he fantabulous? Let me check it out. Maybe not. It will just make me feel worse for him than I already do. He doesn't get enough respect. WE don't get enough respect. We should, we founded this country!
