Christina Hendricks Sounds Off On Cathy Horyn's 'Big Girl' Dig

In her Harper's Bazaar profile, Christina Hendricks takes on the New York Times' Cathy Horyn, who took a dig at the actress in January for her Golden Globes frock, writing:

"Not pretty Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano's exploding ruffle dress. (As one stylist said, 'You don't put a big girl in a big dress.')"

The text was placed next to a distorted image that made Hendricks look wider, a technological error later acknowledged by Horyn.

Christina told Harper's Bazaar:

"To say something like that and put it next to a distorted picture discredits you entirely. And it hurt my feelings. I thought that dress was stunning. I stand by that dress to this day. I had just gotten back from my honeymoon, and I felt beautiful in those pictures. I was smiling and beaming, and I felt like a goddess. It's a celebration, and I'm here because the show I work on is being recognized as excellent work. And you're going to tell everyone in the world that I was wearing a shitty dress? Let me go to a party and wear my pretty dress!"

The dress was unflattering. The gigantic ruffle is busy and ghastly. Horyn wasn't saying Hendricks is unattractive. Her point was that the dress didn't do her any favors.

Maybe because I'm a guy and I don't see NOTHING wrong with it, hell it looks good on her. I think Cathy is jealous because she wouldn't look as good as Christina in the exact same dress.

Hendricks is full-figured but she's beautiful.

She sounds like the petty teenage girl who's trying to get back at the girl who stole her prom date. sheesh, how old are we now? I don't think the dress is a good one for her, but there are infinitely better ways to say it that don't make you sound like a jealous b**ch.

horyn tends to write like a jealous, underloved teenager.

that said, hendricks does need some help in supporting those girls better. if that means choosing dresses that allow her to wear a decent bra, then so be it. but this is isn't the first pic of her rack spilling out of a dress. EVERYthing fits better with the right bra. yes, she's pretty, but this one thing would help hendricks tremendously. and i mean that with love, of course!

Well, in fact the size of the woman (or man) does dictate the size of the dress, but perhaps Horyn didn't know what one of the words that she used meant.

I think Henricks is stunning. The dress is stunning too. I hope that Hendricks doesn't let critics like Horyn bully her into reshaping herself through surgery and obsessive dieting and exercise into a skeletal little bird.

I think she is incredibly beautiful I have thought so since the first time I saw her on Firefly the best show ever canceled by the way :) If people have problems with her size then thats there business. I think so many people are used to the pics of super thin models and actresses that someone bigger is disliked without any knowledge of them. I am 6' 2" weigh 220 and am fairly muscular I would be afraid of hurting one of those little models and women that try to look like them. I wouldn't hurt them on purpose but just kidding around joking giving a hug and other stuff I would be afraid my size or strength would be to much for them so I like well built ladies not fat just big.
