The Huffington Post/AP   First Posted: 10/07/10 09:11 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:55 PM ET

(AP/The Huffington Post) Logitech has unveiled a $300 set-top box that will bring Google's new TV service to people who don't want to buy a new television set.

Google Inc.'s Google TV aims to wed Web content with traditional TV programming. The service will include programs from Time Warner Inc.'s TBS, TNT, CNN and HBO and others, as well as Internet video services operated by Amazon.com Inc. and Netflix Inc.

The first Google TV sets from Sony Corp. are expected to go on sale later this month. Logitech says its devices will be on sale then, too.

Google TV has been touted as an innovation that could "change the way people live their lives." So what kind of features will it offer? Is it worth the investment? We've put together a guide to 15 things you need to know about Google TV and Logitech's new Revue. Tell us what you think of the new product in the comments below.

Logitech recently announced a Revue set-top box that will enable users to access Google TV on their television sets. The device will cost $299 and will come with a wireless keyboard controller. The Revue, currently available from Logitech, Best Buy and Amazon, will ship by the end of October.

Although they have yet to be released, Sony has also partnered with Google to develop televisions and Blu-ray devices that incorporate the Google TV platform.

I won't buy a component until I see the back of the box. How does it hook up? Does the picture look decent? Anytime I have hooked up a computer to my TV it has looked terrible.

I have cable tv and a small form factor computer that's strong enough to be a gamer class computer on my 50 inch in the Living Room. I can see just about anything I want when I want without having to tune in at a certain time to see it.

Logitech is good but it's late to the game. I can do everything that device can do on right now. Day late makes for a dollar short.....

With an iPad in my lap and a Roku on top of the TV, I don't see that Google has anything additional for me.

Apple TV is $99
Google TV is $299

So what's the decision? Buy an apple tv and save $200?

I'm all for competition but I yawn in Google's direction, an emphatic one at that.

GoogleTV does much, much more than AppleTV.

Ok.... were you going to elaborate on that?

Everything that Apple has been avoiding is finally here. Good job Google!

The convergence appliance has finally arrived...I just updraded to Dish HD and I'm blown away with the clarity...I never knew.

I'm a big Roku fan who lives high up on a hilltop in a rural area. that enjoys free, unlimited internet in exchange for tower siting. Typical customers are cap at 20GB/month....I burn that in a day, sometimes between work and entertainment. As more information gets handled through the internet, there's going to be a huge demand for bigger pipelines...very soon. Damn shame we can't have a national ultility that just upgrades/maintains the infrastructure and let the customer control is programming choices.

This device will obsolete Roku (unless they get an integrated keyboard / webcam / touchpad on their product... stat. It's all about cable, remote, and box clutter management...

I hope to save a ton of money with Google TV, but I am not going to pay $300 dollars for any set box. I will get one from China for $30. http://www.digitalundivide.com

I think what people are missing that this HAS Android. It means it's capability (apps) is only limited by ones imagination!

Does it support www.piratebay.org torrent movies, www.rapidshare.com downloads and www.youporn.com?

If not, it's useless.

Crap. Here is yet another example of the world's largest and ubiquitous search and online ad company desperately searching for a new revenue stream by getting into business models they neither understand or are any good with - like mobile phones.

... because they have done so badly with the mobile phone OS that it is outselling every other OS on the market.

There is a market for GTV just as there is a market for ATV. We are talking family people and older, tech deficient individuals, the same ones who benefit from iPads will also benefit from having their information displayed on a larger screen.

This is radio nowhere, is there anybody alive out there?
11:44 PM on 10/07/2010
I had this in 1995. It was called WebTV :-)
05:44 AM on 10/08/2010
Yeah, but this looks like it actually will work and be functional and useful.

WebTV was kind of crappy. I'm pretty impressed with what I'm seeing here. Might become a viable alternative to paying for cable TV...not sure on that, yet, though.
